Not Bright and Definitely Not Cheerful

"I tried cheering myself with wine, and embracing folly..." - Ecclesiastes 2:3

A/N: Sam fears another concussion.

Not Another Concussion

"Out of the brightness of his presence bolts of lightning blazed forth" - 2 Samuel 22:13

Sam made a gradual return to consciousness. He blinked repeatedly into the room's dazzling light as he looked around at his surroundings and wondered where he was and who had brought him here.

The force of the pounding in his head was enough to make him raise his hands to his head and check for injuries. Surely not another concussion?

He almost wished he was dead... again.

"Rise and shine, Sammy! It's a beautiful day," bellowed Dean, with a surfeit of festive cheer.

Sam groaned and retreated back under the covers. How was it fair that Dean didn't get hangovers?

A/N: This may have been partially inspired by recent real-life events...

A/N: Signs, but Sam can only wonder.

Signs and Wonders

"Well I'm heavenly blessed and worldly wise" – 'The Future's So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades', Timbuk3

They'd been tipped-off something big was coming down, so they'd followed the suspicious figure to the farm at the edge of town.

"You take the front," hissed Dean, disappearing into the dark.

Sam burst through the stable door. "Bobby? What're you doing here?"

The grizzled hunter looked up in cheerful surprise. "Sam? I was following a sign..."

Castiel materialized, surrounded by bright light.

"That was you?" frowned Bobby.

Dean chose that moment to fall through the roof, fortunately landing safely in a straw-filled animal feeder. The startled cattle began lowing at the new arrival.

Sam gaped. "No way..." he groaned.

A/N: Sam and Dean are rescued from a demonic horde.

A Winchesters' Cavalry

"Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true" - 'Always Look on the Bright Side of Life', Monty Python

Frozen in horror, Sam stared at the demonic horde ahead of them. Dean yanked him back, only just in time to avoid being trampled beneath the hooves of the Behemoth thundering past.

They watched, mesmerized, as the gigantic beast tore into the demons. "Well, I'd cheer it on, but I suspect that'd only make it turn on us even quicker."

Sam gulped. "The research says you can tame it by putting a ring through its nose."

Dean stared up, and up, at the bellowing creature. "Well, you're the bright one; wanna tell me how we're supposed to get up there?"
