Max couldn't help but notice that the girl cringed when she said "my mom." He wondered why but didn't ask because he was almost afraid of what the answer would be. "So why was the sheriff chasing you?" max ventured to ask. "I ran away from the children's home. Cause I hated it there." then in almost a whispered voice she said, "I hope he doesn't send me back."
"Ok Max the flat is all fixed." Max got up pulled his sister aside. "Isabel, Do you think we could convince mom to take the girl in?" "Max have you gone ballistic? This is not something you would say. What has gotten in to you?" "I don't know it's just I really like the girl and... well...it's just that she's and orphan too and I remember what it was like before mom and dad adopted us. How much we hated the home we were in and I don't want that girl to go through all that. She's thirteen she isn't going to get adopted at this age. UNLESS we get mom to adopt her." Max took a deep breath he didn't think he ever in his whole life had ever said that much at one time. And by he dazed look Isabel had on her face she obviously didn't know he could say that much either.
"Ok, ok but you have to talk to the sheriff about it." "Ok fine I will." Max said as he walked towards the sheriff. "Umm..Sheriff? Could I talk to you for a minute?" The sheriff sighed and walked over to where max was. "Yes Mr. Evans what can I do for you?" he said in an annoyed tone. "Well...Ya see...I was wondering if Taylor could stay with us for a while. I really like the girl and I've kinda gotten a little attached to her." "You talked to her for five minutes." the sheriff said skeptically. "I know, I know but that's the point if I got that attached to her and I only talked to her for five minutes then I must like the girl right?" "Fine, Fine I guess but i want to go talk to your mom ok?" "Alright that's fine with me."
The sheriff followed Max and Isabel to their house. Taylor stayed in the sheriff's car for the ride. When they got in the house Max and Isabell went in the house followed by the Sheriff and Taylor. "Mrs. Evans could i talk to you and your children alone for a minute?" "Sure come on into the kitchen." "YOu can go into the other room and watch tv." max suggested to Taylor. "Ok" They all filed into the kitchen and began talking.
FIVE MINUTES LATER
"Mom please it's a great idea I've always wanted a little sister" Isabel argued "Well...What happened to the girls parents?" asked Mrs Evans skeptically. "Her background is sort of simaliar to Max and Isabel's when she was six she was found abandoned on the side of the road. Two loving parents adopted her except when the girl was eight her dad died and then about two weeks ago her mom died." Max and Isabel both looked very surprised when the sheriff explained her background they wanted more than ever now for their mom to adopt the girl.
BACK IN THE LIVING ROOM
'TWO loving parents? Yea right more like HAD one loving parent and one terrible one who I've had to live with most of my life" Taylor thought as she over heard the coversation going on about her in the kitchen and tried her hardest not to cry thinking about all the painful memories going on in her head.
