Say Cheese.
Spock looked at his beloved wife,
Christine, from the door of his quarters. She was curled in a ball
with their newborn son held closely to her.
Serak stirred in his
sleep and Spock silently took him into his strong arms.
He placed
a soft kiss on Christine's forehead before he walked through to his
bedroom and placed his tiny son on the bed.
"Serak, son of Spock, son of Sarek...'' He mused as he lay down next to the baby.
"You have the eyes of your mother,
but the ears of your father." He said, allowing himself a smile as
he studied the child.
His hair was jet black, like his father's.
His eyebrows were upswept, like his father's. His ears were pointed
at the tips, like his father's. The boy was the pure image of his
father.
Serak stirred again and began to whimper softly until
Spock lifted him onto his chest.
"My son..." He said as Serak snuggled into Spock's neck.
Soon, the two began to fall asleep
together, Spock's hand resting on Serak's back
protectively.
Christine woke from her peaceful slumber and,
noticing her son was gone, walked through to the bedroom she shared
with her husband Spock. Turning up the light slightly she found him
lying on the bed with his son on his chest, snoring ever so softly.
Quietly, she retrieved a camera from a nearby cabinet and took a
picture of the sleeping pair.
"Say cheese." She whispered.
The picture showed a tousle-haired
Spock flat on his back holding onto Serak. Christine vowed to show
this to Captain Kirk when they woke in the morning.
Quietly, she
took Serak from Spock's arms and set him down on the bed, between
her and her husband. Spock stirred, noticing the sudden warmth of his
son leaving his chest, he turned on his side to face Christine.
"Thank you." He whispered.
"For what?" She replied, equally as quiet.
"For making me the happiest Vulcan in the Galaxy." He said. Christine was shocked by Spock's sudden burst of emotion. She kissed her son gently on the forehead then leant forward to kiss her husband's forehead in turn.
"You are most welcome." She said, lying down facing her son and Spock.
Life was good.
