A/N: I wanted to do a one-shot even though I'm not very far in my other story.

This is actually Pokeshipping because I was thinking "I wonder if the newer characters ever ask Ash about crushes". I mean, I'm guessing that both May and Dawn have or had a crush on him (even if I support Contest and Pokeshipping and sometimes Ikari but they haven't been on the show long enough).

Before anyone says, this is on the way to Eterna City even though it hasn't happened yet.

These are thoughts and emphasis

Disclaimer: You know the drill, I own nothing. Well, except the plot (I think)

So here's Thoughts on a Friend

-------

"Hello, are you paying attention Ash?"

"Huh, what?"

"I said we're stopping to eat".

"Sorry Brock".

Ash, Dawn, and Brock are on their way to Eterna City for Ash to get a Gym Badge (of course). Ash wasn't really paying attention all week for one reason or another. He almost missed lunch even!

"Jeez Ash, usually you're the first one to notice it's time for lunch. What's wrong?" asked Dawn.

"I guess the match that's coming up is distracting me," he responded, not paying attention much.

"You weren't like this for the Coal Badge match".

"Whatever".

Dawn was surprised. She's never seen Ash act like this. She was thinking as to why he would. But before she could ask him why, Brock beat her to the punch.

"Ash why are you like this really?"

"I'm fine really. Why don't we talk about something else?"

"Ah okay. What Pokemon will you use in the Gym Battle?"

"Probably Staravia, Turtwig, and Aipom. I have a plan too with…

But Dawn wasn't listening. She was thinking of the way Ash acted. Is he sick or something? No, he's eating fine. Does he miss someone? Wait, maybe a crush? OOH! I want to know!

Dawn interrupted Ash. "Why don't you tell me some of the people you've met on you're journey?"

Ash was caught off guard. "Err… alright I guess. But I've met so many".

"Ah, how about just list the most memorable. Like crushes".

That hit Ash right in the heart. Brock in the background, knew what was going to happen, just smiled and stayed quiet.

"Ah, err well…"

"Aha! You were thinking of a girl weren't you?"

"No way! I don't know what you're talking about".

Brock did pipe up. "How about Misty?"

"Tell me about her," said Dawn excitedly

Ash was as red as a Groudon's hide and getting redder. "She was my best friend. That's so weird". And she wouldn't feel the same added Ash mentally.

"I think it's cute Ash!"

"Do all girls like romance?"

"Hey, I like it too Ash!"

"Whatever, let's keep going. I want to make it before nighttime".

"Fine, help me pack up".

They cleaned their dishes and packed up. As they were about to leave, Ash stopped them.

"Hold on, I'll be back," he told them while heading into the trees.

"He wanted to get there by nightfall!"

"Wait, isn't there a pond around here?"

"I think so, why?"

"Don't worry, he'll be back".

--With Ash--

He was sitting by the pond, thinking about a special redhead.

"Oh Misty, why do you have to watch the gym? Great, now I'm a sap. Oh well, I don't care. This is like the pond she fished me out of".

He was thinking of all the good times he's had with the Water Pokemon Trainer. Then, he realized something.

She's comeback before, why not again He thought. Then he ran to the other two.

"Finally, it's been—

"Let's go I need to make a phone call," Ash yelled while running in the direction of the Pokemon Center.

"What was that about?"

"Probably calling a friend"

"Huh? Oh, calling Misty right?"

Brock sighed. "Yes Misty, Dawn".

That sucked so bad but whatever. I could do a sequel, but I bet you don't want one. Sorry for sucky-ness.
