"Ah, officer Orcot… What am I going to do about you?
I do enjoy your company.
One of these days, I may not let you leave."
- from Destruction, Pet Shop of Horrors vol. 2
"D! Hey D! Where the hell are you? D!?" Leon called. Man, this is starting to freak me out…How can the freaking shop look so small on the outside and still contain all this on the inside?! Maybe I'm walking in circles, or I'm underground… Yeah, maybe that's it… Freakish Chinese people…Leon scratched himself behind the head.
With a last shout of "D!" Leon stomped down the corridor he currently was lost in, muttering something about "… blow that freakish count's head of when I find him…"
Meanwhile, at a different part of the pet shop, count D gazing down in to a small pond. It had a particular ability – like the crystal ball that Honlon had – it's surface could show him every part of the pet shop. It was a great help to him when it came to taking care of his pets… What had him looking at it right now wasn't one of his precious pets, but rather a certain brash American.
No sounds could be heard from the pond, not that D needed them. Besides, he could imagine what the detective was saying quite well. It put a sad smile on his lips and a troubled look in his mismatched eyes. D sighed, my dear Detective, I never thought that the pet shop would respond to my feelings for you. But I've warned you before, haven't I? That I run a store that sells "dreams and love". And the pet shop always has a way of finding the "perfect match" for its customers. However, the customers don't always know that they're customers and the price isn't always money…
But I really shouldn't be surprised. The pet shop responds to the desires in ones heart, mine… and yours. So I guess the real question is; why are you still here?
Slowly the small smirk the Count always wore settled itself across his face. It was time to leave; he had things to prepare before he could settle things with his dear Detective.
It was almost time for tea, after all.
