Chapter One **Lita and Mina take off for a much anticipated ski weekend.**
"Hi Lita, come on in," said Mina, opening the door wide for her friend. "Hi Mina," replied Lita, smiling broadly. She stepped through the door, careful to avoid catching her ice skates on the frame. She had left her skis outside on the porch. "We're sure in for a swell weekend, thanks for inviting me." "Can't think of anyone I'd rather go with. Come on in and get warmed up for a few minutes. I've still got to get the rest of my things together." Lita closed the door and followed her friend into the house. Mina's house reflected the warm, friendly personality of the family who inhabited it. The parlour was painted a warm red, and the sofa and chairs wore masses of big, fluffy pillows. Lita set her skates down gently on the floor and sat down in one of the chairs to wait for Mina, who had run upstairs to finish packing. Lita and Mina had been close friends ever since they had met. Both being Sailor Scouts, they had formed a strong bond. Fighting evil monsters side by side, they had discovered a strong empathy between them and they could almost read one-another's mind. Away from the battleground, they realised common interests and spent a great deal of time together. Both girls greatly looked forward to their weekend together, up north in a winter wonderland called Springfield Park. All week long, Lita could just about feel the cold wind running through her hair as she flew down the slopes. She closed her eyes and imagined the feel of the snow under her skis, the sound of smooth wood flattening clean, new snow, the view from the top of the mountain. She woke abruptly from her reverie when Mina's suitcase bumped and thumped its way down the stairs, followed closely by the girl herself, loaded down with skis, skates, boots, and a heavy down coat. Lita jumped up and grabbed the suitcase before it hit the hardwood floor, then took the skis from her friend. "Thanks. Sorry if I scared you. I had it all under control until about half way down, then everything slipped," she said, embarrassed. "No worries, I've got it," replied Lita, shouldering the skis. "Hey, where's Artimas? Isn't he going to say goodbye?" "Nah! You know him, no soppy goodbyes. He's gone to stay with Luna for the weekend until we get back," she said. "Sounds like he's in for some fun too," she remarked, winking. Mina laughed. "If you're all set, lets load up the car and hit the road," she said, picking up Lita's skates. Mina had miraculously talked her father into lending them his prized car - a burgundy 1982 Datsun 210 hatchback. The little car had plenty of room for their things when they folded down the rear seats, and the hatch closed nicely over the skis. The two girls climbed into the front seat and started off on their much anticipated weekend adventure.
