Draco smiled and held the eyes of his lover. Who knew that just 5 years after school ended, he would be sitting civilly across from his former enemy, eating delicious food and drinking white wine in tall glasses. He put his hand out and looked into the green eyes that pierced his soul. "My God Harry, who knew that we could be here, 5 years later, celebrating a year not only friendship, but a relationship bred out of wondering what could be if we tried. When I first met you when we were 11, I noticed something different about you. Of course, as soon as you chose Weasley over me, I assumed it was something bad. And you know me, I overreact if I feel threatened. Well, you taught me that because of that, I've driven away a lot of people throughout the years. That's why, for you, I became a friend to the red-haired pain in my ass and allow him to do things and say things around me I wouldn't otherwise. I would never change for anyone other than you. As we grew up, you challenged me both mentally and physically. We flew nearly in sync and were able to challenge one another. That is what I have always needed through life. You do too. Harry Potter, you are my best friend and my other half. Marry me?"

Harry looked at Draco with awe and felt his mouth drop open. Draco leaned over and lifted Harry's mouth before kissing him softly. As he pulled away Harry rolled his eyes and laughed. "You are such an ass. Oh, I will say that until the day I die. And we do challenge each other a lot. But that can be a good thing. A wonderful thing. If you can always keep me on my toes as you do now, the spending the rest of my life with you is bound to be wonderful. You've accepted my past and my friends. So can I marry you? Hell yes."

Draco found himself laughing at his lover and pulling out the ring he'd picked out earlier that day. It had a simple gold band and an emerald core. He leaned forward and placed it on Harry's finger. "Mine." He said, claiming Harry. He kissed his lover once more. "Always and forever."
