His hurtful roar that echoes in my heart,
His accusing eyes blazing down.
One small word,
Hissed with disgust,
That changed me forever.
I thought I knew him,
That he knew me.
Once in love,
We were free;
From chains of rules,
Responsibilities, and differences,
Our only loyalties lied with each other.
Beneath the ground,
In the shadows of the deep,
A clan of diversity,
Friendship and trust,
Was born.
We could escape,
Leave behind our clan hatred and rivalry,
And just be ourselves.
He said though that he was done,
That he had a dream to accomplish.
Loyalty to his Clan, it seemed,
Was everything to him.
Our bond was gone,
My love became afar
But was it really worth it?
The pain,
The suffering,
The nightmares,
The torture.
To look across the border into his eyes,
And see nothing but hate and secrets.
Knowing that he didn't trust me,
After all this time.
He got what he wanted.
He is back where he should be.
I see the way he looks at that she-cat,
And the admiring glances returned.
He has forgotten me,
Or at least believes me to be different from him,
An enemy,
Like any other cat,
As he should.
I am back where I should be.
I follow the path laid out before me,
The best I can.
My loyalties are back in line
Though my heart is far from it.
