They met every year on the same day, like clockwork. None of them even needed to announce their arrivals anymore; they just Flooed into Hermione and Ron's house. Harry and Ginny, Percy and Penelope, George and Padma, Luna and Rolf, Neville, Bill ,Fleur, Charlie and Hestia... Not to mention all the children.
This year had been a good one – Ron had been promoted, Luna and Rolf had gotten engaged, and Hermione was pregnant. She had been fighting with Ron for months – months – about what they were going to name the child. To add insult to injury, Hermione was in her third trimester and the arguments were becoming positively vicious from her side.
It was Christmas Eve, and there was a fire roaring in the hearth. Teddy and Victoire were wandering around the house putting various objects into their mouths, and Albus was sleeping on the plush carpet.
"You're not holding the needles right," Ginny said. She was teaching Hermione knitting, without much success.
"Don't irritate the pregnant woman." Hermione attempted a growl, but couldn't help the breathless laughter that came to her instead. When James ran by and knocked over the baskets of yarn, the whole institution of knitting was abandoned in favour of reminiscing about second year and Polyjuice potion.
"That's why Hermione was is the hospital wing?" Angelina gasped, laughing breathlessly.
"I thought," Luna stated dreamily, "that she might have been attacked by a Flibbering Quandersnick. They do cause excessive hair growth, you know." Rolf smiled reverently.
"Look what I found!" Penelope exclaimed, pulling out a photo. She beamed. "Hallowe'en, last year! There's that huge pumpkin George exploded... Which wasn't as bad as the time he convinced Ron there was an Acromantula colony in the backyard. Ron still jumps every time he hears hissing." She laughed. "I was a fairy and Fleur dressed like an angel." She touched the wings – the sun shone, but Fleur glowed like the moon and stars in this picture. "She even has the rose that Bill gave her in her hair!"
Hermione started. "Rose," she whispered.
Everyone looked confused, but not Ron. Ron smiled. "Rose is absolutely perfect."
And everyone, somehow, managed to smile even wider.
