This is going to be a multi-chapter. I'm really bad at updating, but I'll try . And I know it's a little out of character for his Neil's dad to only send him for a year but let's just ignore that.

Disclaimer: I own nothing

Todd wakes up to the sound of clothes being thrown. He reluctantly rolls over, dragging himself fully awake. He rubs his sleep filled eyes in a slight daze. He sees Neil throwing clothes near the suitcase on his bed, only a few things actually making it in. Confused, Todd sits up, running his hand through his light brown hair.

"Mm? Neil?" He mumbles, his voice still thick with sleep.

Neil turns at the sound of his tired roommate and wipes at his face in a weak attempt to hide the flood of tears.

"What's wrong?" Todd asks more awake at the sight of his upset friend. "What happened?"

"My father" He says the word like it tastes bad "decided to send me to military school. Because of the play." He takes the last of his stuff and throws it into the suitcase.

Todd eyes widen, praying his friend is just playing a cruel joke on him. "He can't do that!"

Neil slipps out a humorless laugh "Of course he can." Todd looks at him helplessly, not knowing how to make Neil feel better.

Neil walks over to Todd's bed and sits on top of the covers, his back against the wall. Todd sits up more, crossing his legs and moving the blanket off of him. Neil gives up on trying to stop tears and let's them silently flow down his red cheeks. Todd gingerly leans over and wraps his arms around his friend, accidentally pulling him down because of their seating positions. Neil accepts the hug, wrapping his arms around Todd.

"He says I have to go for a year, so I can 'learn discipline.'" Neil says, breaking the silence they fell into.

"That's not that long…" Todd mumbles, knowing a whole year would feel like a lifetime. "…we can write and call each other" he supplies, trying to brighten the dark situation. "And you'll probably make a bunch of new friends" he says this as cheerfully as he can, though the thought of Neil making new friends and leaving him behind makes Todd want to cry.

Neil smiles "Yeah, but none of them would be as great as you guys." Todd smiles back at him, his arms still secure around the thin boy. They fall back into a comfortable silence.

"I have to leave soon." Neil says, launching Todd out of his comfort. Neil lifts his head off the other boys chest and presses his lips to Todd's quickly, before standing up. He shoves the clothes that missed the suitcase into it, then closes it and latches it shut. He kisses Todd again, letting his lips linger for a half a second before smiling at him.

"See you in 12 months" he says, offering a sad smile and walking out, the door closing behind him.

Todd can still feel the ghost of Neil's kiss on his lips. He wonders how he'll last a whole year in Hellton, without Neil.

eh, I don't know how I feel about this. Sort of seems Out of Character and cliche.
