A 500 word drabble for Saix. My attempt at reviving my brain after the end of my exams a few weeks ago and to pull myself out of that depression you get after every exam you do, if you're like me.

Chasing the Light

'Don't be gone too long,' is all the Superior says when he asks the Nobody for permission to leave the castle grounds. Xemnas gives him a dazed look, leaving him feeling distinctively uncomfortable; yellows eyes that seem to stare at him without really seeing him, like he's transparent.

In response, Saix gives a curt nod, accepting both the permission granted and the reminder. Nowadays are prone to sudden changes and being too far from information can be dangerous.

Once he's outside and the door behind him has fully closed, pulling shut with a soft click, he pictures his destination in his mind, inserting every detail he can remember and holds it out as an offering. Instantly, a door opens in front of him, black tendrils curling and uncurling in the air. Without hesitation he puts one foot into the pathway and leaves the other world behind him.

A walk later, he is standing in the place he has only recently seen behind closed eyelids. One glance up at the sky tells him that it's night time and the light shining down is painful. The sound of tides splashing against sand reaches his ears and he turns in that direction. A seemingly endless ocean is laid out in front of him, stretching itself until it has reached the limit of his eyesight.

Usually, he'd take his place in the land between the sand and the raging water; he'd stand in the middle of the two worlds and take his time. Tonight, he didn't. Lately, his patience has been thinning, like it was being cut into thin slices, taken away from him only to be devoured by something else far more unfeeling. Something somewhere has been eating away at his being but he can't name who it is, or why it's happening. He can't say why he's feeling less and less whole and more and more empty as each day goes by, sunrise and sunset.

So, instead of the usual slow gathering of power, he instantly whips out a giant amount of energy, compressing and shaping it into a form he no longer recognizes because the part of him that differentiates what is what has gradually been eaten away as well. Once it's tightly packed with energy and power – pure power – he lashes out with his hand towards the sea, watches as it explodes in every direction imaginable.

For a moment, there is only silence to answer him. Then, a low rumble resonates under his feet, someplace deep underneath the water's surface and the sandy beach. In front of him, gravity cracks and snaps and bends, pulled forward by the magnetic force in his spell, in his skin. The roaring sound of water rising high into the sky is familiar, almost exactly like the one he hears in the dream.

Tides and the moon dance together in a chase, and the pursuer will never catch up.

Because if it ever did, the moon would be swallowed whole, leaving behind only absolute darkness.

End

When I read this after I finished it, I saw a few different ways to look into it. It's cool, I guess, since I wasn't sure what I wanted it to mean when I wrote it. It's like, you can look at the words and see more than one story at a time. So, what did you see?

It'll be nice to know. Thanks for stopping by and reading this!
