Hey guys! I haven't written anything in a while, so I came up with this sort of SoMa oneshot, depending on how you look at it. Later on it may get a little confusing on who's talking, so italics is Maka talking and "speech marks" are Soul. Enjoy!
Soul looked over to the girl lying in the bed next to him, holding her hand as tightly as possible. Tears spilled out of his crimson orbs. He blamed himself for everything that had happened. The heart monitor beeped in its monotone patterns taunting Soul with its every beep.
"Soul…" a calm voice called over the beeps. Souls head turned slowly to see Tsubaki standing in the doorway, Black*Star next to her. He quickly whipped away his tears and flashed a weak smile to the pair. "Please, Soul. Everyone's waiting for you. It's been 3 days already, you have to leave at some point." She knew this wouldn't make a difference and possibly anger the distraught teenager, but she didn't care.
Soul gave a low snarl and snapped his head back to the pale figure in the bed. "I don't care, I want to stay here." More tears threatened to fall, but he just blinked them away. "I always eat, so I'm fine and the seat is comfy enough for me to sleep on. I don't need to leave." Soul ran a shaky hand through his gravity defying hair and rubbed his tired face with his free hand.
Black*Star sighed and ambled up to Soul, grabbing him by the back of the collar and dragging him out of the room, despite the many threats and protests from his victim. "You need to get out, staying in that bleak and boring room will make you end up in a bed next to her, and you don't want that, do you?" He managed to drag Soul outside in front of everyone before letting him go and blacking any means of going back inside the DWMA.
A sad chucked managed to escape from Kid. "So you finally managed to get him out? That's a relief." Kid walked up to Soul and wrapped his arms around his shaking body and stood there for a few minutes, whispering meaningless 'sorrys' and 'it'll be okay'. Liz and Patty joined in, not really knowing what else to do.
Soul managed to break away like a little kid not wanting to be smothered by their grandmother. He stomped his foot on the ground. "Just stop it already! I don't want your stupid apologies and crappy hugs! I just want to be next to Maka…" This time he couldn't fight them back as tears trickled down his cheeks. He fell to his knees, not knowing what else to do as his emotions got the better of him.
Everyone just looked at each other, feeling awkward and not entirely sure what to do. That's when they were relieved that Naigus came out of the doors, clipboard and pen held tightly in her hands. "Soul Eater Evans? Lord Death would like a word, if you will." Soul slowly nodded, accepting Nagius' hand to help pull him up. They walked back inside and into Lord Deaths room.
"Welcome, Soul! Please, have a seat!" Lord Death chirped, motioning to a battered chair next to an even battered table. He gratefully took it since his legs felt like jelly. Lord Death bounced up to him, handing him a tissue.
"T-thanks." Soul sniffed, blowing his nose and whipping his wet cheeks with the back of his sleeve. "What did you want me for?" He chucked the used tissue into the bin like a pro basketball player, feeling quite chuffed with himself.
Lord Death gave out a small sigh and looked over to Naigus for help. She just shook her head and placed the clipboard and pen gingerly on the table. "Please, read this." She then slid behind Lord Death, afraid of the albino scythe.
At first, Soul looked confused but just shrugged it off and started reading slowly. That's when he knew why Naigus was so scared of him and in his opinion, she should be. "What the fuck is this bullshit?!" he growled, slamming his hands onto the table and pushing himself up. His eyes glowed with anger and his shark teeth were clenched together tightly.
Lord Death gulped. "As you read, if Maka is still in a coma for more than 7 days then we'll have to unplug the machine. This wasn't our choice I'll have you know. Maka was the one who insisted on it. She requested it to me when she first joined my academy. As the head, I must comply with whatever my students so desire."
Soul's growl stared to grow fierce as he punched the table, breaking it clean in half. "I have four days left, right? She'll wake up before then, this is Maka we're talking about after all! She's not some weakling who can't put up a fight, she's my meister and that will never change!" With that, Soul sprinted out of the Death Room and made his way back to the room where Maka was currently residing.
"That could've gone better…" Lord Death gulped, picking up the clipboard which had fallen on the floor and quickly scanning it. "He didn't even sign the bottom…"
Black*Star paced backwards and forwards, not liking the quietness and bored expressions on his friends faces. "When's he going to get out of there?!" He then had an idea. Grinning like an idiot, he threw his shoes and Kid.
"What was that for?!" Kid snapped, squeezing the shoe and chucking it back with such force that Black*Star had fallen on the floor. "You looking for a fight?!"
"I AM looking for a fight!" Black*Star retorted, holding out his hand and waiting for Tsubaki to transform. Nothing happened. "Tsubaki?" He looked around, only to see his partner missing.
"Hahaha! At least I have Liz and Patty!" Kid copied Black*Stars actions, waiting for his weapons to transform as well. "Liz, Patty?" Kid spun around to see no one.
"No one's here! They could've at least told us where they were going!" Black*Star and Kid shouted, deciding to split up to find their respected weapons.
Pain surged through Maka's body. Even breathing lightly seemed to cause pain. Where am I? Her eyes opened slightly, only for them to widen at where she was. It was as if she had lost control to the black blood again, only she could tell this definitely wasn't the case. Getting used to the darkness, she could make out a faint light in the distance. Maybe I should move towards that… She tried to move her arms to no avail. She tried to move her head. That didn't work either. It was as if a million tiny vices had tightened themselves all over her body, and it was getting tighter. Her sharp breathing became shallows gasps as an attempt for air. She closed her eyes tightly, a few tears dripping down her face. Please, some save me!
Soul jolted slightly, feeling a sharp pain in the general location that his soul was. "M-Maka?" He squeeze her hand tighter, hoping to guess a response. Her hand twitched at the gesture and Souls heart skipped a beat. "Maka, can you hear me?!"
Her eyes opened yet again, looking at the light. Soul? Please help me! She looked at her hand and noticed that there was no pain when she moved it. She couldn't help but smile slightly and focus all her energy in trying to find his soul, doing so successfully.
Souls eyes widened, brightening up as they did so and a huge smile became plastered onto his face. Where am I? He smiled even more now knowing that he could talk to his beloved meister. "You're in a coma, Maka. I'm just glad you're okay." Could be better I guess but that's a relief. Soul let out a small chuckle, receiving one back from Maka. "Is it scary, being in a coma?" There was no reply for a while. It's not scary, but it's not calming ei-. Maka was suddenly cut off, and Soul could feel that something was wrong. "Maka? Maka!" The heart monitor started beeping frantically. Soul jumped up and ran out the door, calling for Naigus.
Soul? Where'd you go?! Soul! Don't leave me alone, it hurts! She started coughing violently. Everything hurt worse than before and more tears started streaming down her face. A hand reached in from the light and it seemed to be getting closer to Maka. She stretched her hand out despite the pain, hoping to grab it. Just as she was about to, the light and the hand disappeared and her eyesight started to become blurry with lots of colours being thrown at her.
Maka's eyes cracked open, only to close again from the blinding light. She groaned and brought a hand to her face to rub her painful eyes. Turning her head to the side, she saw Soul reading the book that she always hit people with. "Hey sleepy head." Soul smiled, putting the book down on the bedside table and stroking some hair out of her face. "You've been asleep for four days."
Maka blushed and pulled the covers up to her eyes. "I-I have? That's a long time…" Soul leaned forwards and kissed her forehead, making Maka blush the colour of his eyes. "W-what are you doing?!" She had to admit, but she liked the contact. She couldn't help but have a cheeky grin on her face as she stared into Souls eyes. Soul smiled somewhat evilly as his face and the room started blacking out. A feint drone could be heard as Maka's eyes drifted shut, the last thing she saw was the evil grin of her blackened out weapon staring down at her. The droning noise came to a halt.
"Welcome home, Maka."
