When your partner is undercover, it's usually fine. They are smart, responsible, and you have their back. But then say your partner is undercover without you. You don't trust other people with them, and you worry every second until they are back. Now, say your partner is undercover ALONE. And he's undercover for a different agency, so you can't get updates on whether he's okay or not. And your partner is gone for weeks at least, months at most. Welcome to the world of Kensi Blye.

It was the night Kensi had been dreading all week. Friday night. She typed up the last few words of her paperwork. She slung her bag over her shoulder. She said goodbye to Callen and Sam. Then she stared at the desk that had been empty for 3 weeks now before walking out to her car and driving home.

Normally, a night where Deeks was undercover wouldn't bother her as much as tonight did. But tonight was Friday night. Partner night. The night they shared every week on the couch with a movie, some takeout, cold beers, and some ice cream. And when he was undercover, these nights were the worst of her week.

She did what she had been doing every night for the past few weeks. She dialed up a number. They put her on hold. She grabbed a microwaveable dinner and devoured it. She was on hold for the next half hour. They finally connected her call. To Deeks' boss at LAPD.

"You again, Miss Blye?" he huffed in annoyance.

"Yeah."

"You've called every night for the past three weeks. I can't tell you anything, except for your phone bill is going to be through the roof."

"I just want to know if my partner is fine, Detective."

"That's classified information."

"What, whether he's alive or not?" Kensi was close to yelling into the mouthpiece. "I work with him every day. I think I have enough clearance to know if he's okay."

"Miss Blye, does your director at NCIS know that you've been asking for this classified intel?"

"No."

"Then for both our sakes I recommend that you stop calling. I'm going to hang up now. Have a good weekend."

"Don't you dare-" Kensi was cut off as the call was disconnected with a click. She put down her phone as let out an exasperated groan.

She spent the rest of the night wallowing around her house doing nothing in particular. When it came time to sleep, she couldn't bring herself to close her eyes. Whatever, she thought. Tomorrow is Saturday.

This went on for another two weeks. She had stopped calling LAPD when they blocked her number. Then on Friday night she got a knock on her door. It was probably a package, so she took her time getting up from the couch and moving over there.

When Kensi finally opened the door, she didn't expect to be met by a wide grin and a mop of curly blond hair. It took her a few seconds to process who was standing in front of her. And when she did, Kensi practically jumped on him, pulling Deeks into a hug before her brain could approve the action.

"Whoa, Princess, I missed you too," he chuckled, squeezing her back.

He was alive. He was fine. He was back. And she couldn't help but punch him in the gut.

"OW! What was that for?"

She smiled and walked back into her house.

"Missing partner night."
