Gretchen looked down at the little girl in her arms. Her fuzzy red hair sticking up in patches from her head. A tear slipped silently down her face as two large arms lifted the baby from her. Turning so as to not have to watch the child be removed from her life. Rolling herself into the foetal position Gretchen cried herself to sleep. In the corner of the room a man stood holding the child. Looking at her, as if trying to remember every feature etched on her tiny face. Then without a moments hesitation he promptly handed the child to a nurse whom proceeded to walk out of the room and right down the corridor. Out of his life forever. He walked over to the sleeping form of his wife lying in the hospital. He stroked a stray lock of auburn hair of her face. Leaning over he kissed her head lightly and walked out of the room. He turned left and walked down the corridor. Shoulders slumped his tears falling silently from his eyes he walked towards a crowd of people, all surrounding a window. Inside was a room filled with new-born babies. He new instantly which one was little Kathryn. The silent tears turned into violent sobs as he thought about the fact that this child would grow up never knowing her sister. The sister with the incurable brain damage. The sister who had barley a day to live. The sister who would never know of her twin sister Kate.

Forty years later.

"Kathryn Janeway come back here now we are not finished." Chakotay first officer of the star ship Voyager stood hands on hips as he watched his captain walk out of the holodeck. They had just finished a particularly tough game of velocity and he really didn't want to lose again. So he had programmed the computer to make sure that he won this last point in the very likely event that Kathryn would get the upper hand but of course being Kathryn she had to win so hen the computer announced his victory Kathryn took off. 'Sore loser' he thought. 'Guess I better follow her.' R

Chakotay took off running. He exited the holodeck and turned toward the nearest turbolift.

"Computer locate Captain Janeway."

"Captain Janeway is in turbolift 7."

"Where is turbolift 7 heading?"

"Deck 3."

'So she was going back to her quarters to sulk.' He entered the turbolift and called for deck 3. Chakotay could just picture her now. Pacing her quarters, muttering to herself trying to work out exactly how she had lost. She never lost! Chakotay chuckled. Stepping of the turbolift he bypassed Kathryn's quarters and headed for his own. A peace offering would be good about now. Walking o the replicator he ordered the one thing that he knew would appease Kathryn in this kind of mood.

"One coffee ice-cream."

Grabbing he bowl he made his way back to her quarter and rang the chime.

"Go away Chakotay!"

"Ahh come on Kathryn don't be like that."

"I SAID GO AWAY. I'M VERY BUSY"

"No you're not. Open the door." When she didn't answer he played his winning card. "I have a present for you.

"What is t?"

"Oh no you have to open the door."

"Okay. but you better not be naked Chakotay. That didn't work last time and it won't work this time." By the time Kathryn did open the door Chakotay had managed to control the very deep red blush that had covered his cheeks at the mentioned of his last peace offering. "Oooh coffee ice cream. All is forgiven. Come in!"
