The warrior rode aback his dragon, searching for someone…something…anything…and as he searched, a voice rang out above the waves…
"A presence sensed! New and wrong...death pursues what can't
belong!
Familiar company brings a meal! Not to share, but from me steal?
An empty spot within my craw, craves your flesh, your bones bled
raw!
Your fear, your fear! So sweet, so strong! To tease my tongue,
your lives are gone
Your odds unfavored, my web too strong! Speed won't negate a line
stepped wrong?
You dare, dare smite this awesome beast? Your fates are sealed
as my next feast!
Heed this beck and hear this call. Fight me still your wills
shall fall.
Tease me, tease me! You know not-this path that leads to cold
and rot!
Thwart me once, your fortune fine! Try again, your souls are
mine..."
Fighting it with the strength of will
The warrior returned, not to meet his end, but to find the owner of the terrifying voice and the cruel promises. As before, the voice carried over sea and sand, reaching the ears of the warrior fool, who saw dragons and beasts of the sea race towards the west, towards freedom…
"Return, return, return my fleet! Spineless worms, your loath
deceit!
A passion, human, burns and blights! Your ugly hearts, your
wrongs and rights!
Return! Return! You will suffer, you will burn!
Cry your tears, your human woes! Curse yourself, this path
you chose!
Your lords, your riches, your wretched whims...your progress
soars, your future dims...
WRETCH!
A playful rider, have we here? You aim to die? To join those
dear?
Feed me my own fire, will you?
A hollow victory, without ado...
Follow me, man and beast! Follow me, where i shall feast!
Forty spans below you burn! Fourty more means no return!
A task I've seen! Your open minds!
Weighted down by duty's binds!
Thy line is drawn, thy sentence set!
This reckless quest, your last regret!
A gift, a curse, it matters not! This ignorance shall earn your
spot!
Among the shriveled and the damned, a slumber deep you reap in
hand!
Powdered bones, and blood congealed, last betold who moaned and
squealed!
No! No! No! No!
No! No! No! No!
No! No! No! No!"
As the frantic words carried over sand, the warrior realized his new stand.
He left, never to search under the waves, for the beasts army was gone! It would not behave. Would not answer question or fight, so the hero decided to do what's right.
He left it alone, to sleep and to fear. To dream of those so far, so dear.
And when he fell it would be with a smile
remembering the beast, once defiled
whom he had left, to fight on its own, in the quiet to sleep and roam
no more could it attack or kill
for it had no army to bend to its will
but it would live another day
so he really had no need to stay
his work was done, his battles fought, and nothing that he had forgot
and just as he was drifting 'way
He heard a familiar voice say
"This is it then, you and me
One to die beneath the sea
The other to go above the land
Two enemies to pass, hand in hand."
Then the voice quieted, the world was still
And the human left with the force of will
To go into a sunset, once unseen
To travel forever in a world of dreams
So if you look to the moon one day, and see a cocky grin and a wave
The moons not just watching over you
But there's a hero up there too
Making sure you're safe, and warm
Protecting and quieting the beast once scorned
So let your eyes close, and fall asleep
An adventure someday you will reap.
