M is for Mess Deck Arrangement

Come on, come 's it. Yeah. You're not gonna eat that. But still. Raleigh sits smugly as he watches everything unfolds according to his plan. But Mako seems to take a turn to the left, spotting the obvious empty seats next to the wall.

No, no, no! Raleigh waves madly at Mako. She proceeds to her target seats but then turn her head ever so slightly and their eyes connect. Raleigh makes a signal with this index to the vacant seat in front of him. Mako gestures like she is too lazy to go over there. Raleigh purses his lips. Mako rolls her eyes and gives in. She approaches.

"I thought you saw me," Raleigh says as Mako puts down her tray.

"You know why," Mako responds.

"Yeah. High school. Moving from place to place. Being the odd one out."

"Must had been easy for you."

"Well, I got Yancy," Raleigh drops his tone and then as if he remembered something, his face lit up. Swiftly, he makes his move.

"Slide over," Raleigh says. Mako sees that the space Raleigh reserved is enough for two.

"Okay."

So they sit, side by side, looking at the same view of people. Mako quite likes it but she knows.

"You take my cashews-"

"But,"

"and the shrimps."

"Thanks," Raleigh says, helping himself to the cashews and shrimps from Mako's tray.

"But I need your coffee. I'm too lazy to get my fill-up. You can have my juice."

"Okay."

The din of the mess deck drowns them. Raleigh takes in the distraction. Mako takes in the anonymity of solitude in a place full of people.
