Living Long Enough

My next story in the one 100 word story every day for 100 days self-imposed challenge, in which a Starfleet officer considers events.

So that was that was the famous Balthazar Edison. The man that they covered in the military history of the Federation. A great leader of men whose fate was unknown for so long.

I guess the saying is true – either die a hero or live long enough to become the villain.

And the only official mark on his record was that his ship went down with all hands. No comments on the lives that were lost. The suffering that he caused. Just 'case closed'. That the 'being' Krall was the one who attacked us.

And the brass think that those who were there hadn't figured it out. Most've us did, or shared the story. Not that we're allowed to spread it around. It's classified they said, need to know they said. And apparently the public doesn't need to know that a hero lived long enough to die a villain.

Fucking smug assholes the lot of them…
