What Child is This - Prelude
It's all in the Details...
'There is a room in the Department of Mysteries that is kept locked at all times. It contains a force that is at once more wonderful and more terrible than death, than human intelligence, than the forces of nature.'
... he will have power the Dark Lord knows not ...
'It is also, perhaps, the most mysterious of the many subjects for study that reside there. It is the power held within that room that you possess in such quantities and which Voldemort has not at all. That power took you to save Sirius tonight.'
... he will have power the Dark Lord knows not ...
'That power also saved you from possession by Voldemort, because he could not bear to reside in a body so full of the force he detests. In the end, it mattered not that you could not close your mind. It was your heart that saved you.'
... your heart saved you...
Irony.
Voldemort has terrorized the wizarding world for more than 30 years.
They have known for 17 years Harry would be the one with the power to defeat him.
They have known for over a year it would be the love in his heart that would give him the power he needs.
They were ready, or thought they were.
Albus spent the first three weeks of summer after Harry's sixth year teaching him the theories on using his emotions in spell casting. Many of the Order's greatest minds felt Voldemort would make an all-out attack on Harry sometime before his 17th birthday. After all, it would make it easier for them to get to Harry before he came of age and was still hiding behind the wards on Privet Drive. So Harry was bombarded with lessons every day, until his handlers felt he was ready.
They were right, sort of.
Voldemort did attack the day before Harry's birthday. Using the common blood link between himself and Harry, Voldemort was able to enter Number Four even if his followers couldn't accompany him on this mission. Harry was waiting for him up in the smallest bedroom, wand already pointing at the door, the spells he and Albus had reviewed on the tip of his tongue. Voldemort burst through the door, Harry swished and flicked... but nothing happened.
He knew the spells. He made the correct movements, said the right words. But something was missing.
... your heart saved you...
Harry's heart was empty.
Nobody died that day, the Order had made backup plans incase the attack went bad. The Dursleys were already off on an all-expense paid vacation to Italy while new wards were placed around their home and Harry was safely removed to the glorious Marauders Mansion (Formerly the House of Black, before Remus and Harry took possession.) Hidden away at Grimmauld Place, Harry would be safe until returning to Hogwarts.
But unless he learned to feel again, all would be for naught.
