"Mai?" he asked softly.

Mai turned to face him fully and regarded the way how he looked. He was worse for wear, but that didn't stop the smile of relief that formed on her face. She could have sworn that he wasn't going to make it past the last attack. She was glad though that they had managed to find temporary shelter in this room. Mai glanced at the room and realized that she couldn't see very much. She hoped they were safe for now. Mai waited patiently for him to continue and nervously bit at her lip when he didn't answer after a few moments. Her feeling of relief was met with apprehension. This couldn't have been good news.

He struggled slightly and winced at his wording, "Do you...believe that Hitsugaya-san is...really saying the truth? You know, about you and me?"

Mai stared at him flabbergasted. She was unsure of what to say and stood there in a bit of a daze. She regarded him question carefully and wondered what it meant to him. It was odd. This predicament, but it could've been worse. She opened her mouth to say something when a scream cut through the night's air. They both paled instantly.

Screaming. There was always screaming.
