A/N: So, hey! I got a Matt-centric fic that I thought of purly because I wanted to type... Seriously, I love the noise my keyboard makes... And I SHOULD be studting for my ACT thing I'm doing for DUKE Tip... Anyway, it's short and all, but I hope you like it! I don't own Death Note.

Mail Jeevas. Matt. Sometimes he wonders who was who.

Mail Jeevas is a genious, born and raised at Wammy's with his best friend Mello and acquaintance Near. Mail Jeevas is third in line to become L Lawliet's successor and be the world's greatest detective. Mail Jeevas likes that. He likes the thought of having people look up to him and trust him the way L is trusted. He likes the thought of being able to be the eccentric man he is and people accept him easily. But, more than anything, he likes the thought of being loved. He likes to laugh and smile and tell jokes with people; he likes the feeling of comfort and joy whenn people are together in a group and not at each other's throats.

Matt is a smoking geek in stripes. He is a computer geek that can hack into anything in a matter of minutes. Matt doesn't give a damn about being anyone's successor or following in anyone's footsteps. Matt doesn't need love or acceptance from anyone or anything because he knows, in the end, it's only going to be him and him alone. He uses sarcasm and has a dry sense of humor because that's who he is and, if someone doesn't like it, he doesn't give a damn; he doesn't need people anyway. He uses nicotine as an escape from the pitifully boring world he lives in and has no intention of stopping, nor of slowing down because he moves slow enough.

The thing is, he's both of these people, wound into one intricate swath of fabric. He isn't Matt or Mail, he's the combination. He loves and feels and thinks, like both of them do. He wants love, wants acceptance, but hides it under the "I-don't-give-a-damn" facade he shows to the world. He likes computers and is the best hacker out there, but he's also an all-around genious. He has a smile that can light up the world and stunning green eyes that can be read like a book. His hair is as fiery as his personality, even if he doesn't show he has a personality in the first place.

Matt is Mail and Mail is Matt, and he probably won't ever know this.

But knowing is half the battle.
