The Yearly 365 Challenge
Prompt #358 (Gene) Family
Spinning around to look at her mother in the eyes. "Why are you doing this? We don't need him in our lives any longer! He owes us nothing!" Angry tears sparkled in her eyes but she refused to allow them to fall. Her arms rose to cross her chest tightly.
Hermione sighed deeply. "You don't understand Veroncia."
"What don't I understand? What I don't understand that you actually did his bidding concerning contacting the Serpents." Her lips thinned. "I saw you mother." Her rage coiled through her stomach as she stared at her mother. "You know if you allow him to move into the Pembroke then he find the a way to have us lose it too."
"The Pembroke is in my name; I will not sign any paper work that has his name on it." Hermione breathed in. "My family made sure that Hiram can only stay here ... he can't lay claim to it." She looked at her daughter in the eyes. "It goes directly to you Ronnie. Your father can't touch it. He can't destroy it."
"He'll destroy it by living in it. He'll destroy it by just being here!" Veronica said in a calm cold voice. "I don't want him here."
"He's your family." Hermione tried.
Veroncia snarled. "He's only my family because I have the misfortunate cause of having his DNA inside me ... that I have the misfortunate that you fucked him." Her eyes closed briefly. Opening them she looked at her mother. "Mami I don't want to fight with you. I don't want to be against you. I can't lose you." She swallowed. "We don't need him in our lives. We are able to survive. Please don't allow him back." She pleaded with her mother.
"I don't want you ..." Hermione began. She walked and took a seat on the couch. "You are right Veronica; you and I can survive without Hiram Lodge in our lives." She looked at her still hurt daughter. "But the fact is that he will always remain in our lives. He's not a truly horrible human being Ronnie. Granted he cheats, steals in business ... but he is a ..."
"Don't even go there Mami." Veronica tiredly sat down next to her mother. "I can't have him in my life right now. It's too soon." She shook her head. "I don't him anywhere near ..." She broke off. She stood to her feet. "I have to get out of here. I can't stay here any longer." She rushed from the room.
Hermione's heart harden against Hiram Lodge even more then when he finally got dragged out of their apartment in handcuffs; in front of Veronica the previous year. She knew that she had to preside with the divorce. There was no way she would allow Hiram to keep hurting Veronica by his presence. She was fully going to protect her daughter against Hiram like she should have done when she first learned she was pregnant; because by then she fully knew whom Hiram Lodge truly was. She should've divorced Hiram during the pregnancy and raised Veronica on her own. She was no longer a weak woman ... she would remain strong for Veronica.
