When Evening fell, the Lieutenant was removed to the chapel next door.
The funeral mass was long, boring , at times, emotional and full of I.M. Foreman going on about the Lieutenant's past life.
"I would like to call on the Lord President of Gallifrey for a few words," he said and sat down.
The Historian walked up, bowed and proceeded over to the Altar. He spoke about how he had never known the Lieutenant but had heard all about him, had announced how the end would go and when the lid was to be put on. "And finally," he turned to look at the Lieutenant, "to thank you for your service to Gallifrey," the Historian turned round and two Time Lords hurried forward with a jar. It had orange regeneration energy in it, "we grant you a new Regeneration Cycle. Twelve more regeneration." The Historian opened the jar and the energy flew over to its Time Lord.
The Lieutenant's eyes opened. "Hello, Gallifrey," he said, got straight up, out of the coffin, in next door, to the SISO and dematerialised it. He took a Samsung Galaxy Alpha from the console and rung Kellie. "I'll be back soon," he said and hung up. He pulled a lever.
The SISO desktop theme changed.
"I liked this one," he said with a smile.
A mirror faded into view.
On the other side, a man beckoned to him to come through.
The Lieutenant ran round the console and opened the doors of the SISO.
The SISO had materialised over Gallifrey.
The Lieutenant returned to the mirror.
The man on the other side was clearly dying. He reached.
The Lieutenant also did so.
Their hands met.
The man inside pulled the Lieutenant in.
The Lieutenant felt good here. I fact, he felt something passing from the man's hand into his.
The man nodded farewell.
The Lieutenant returned from the mirror. He had an orange glow about him. He blew gently.
The energy left the SISO.
"One more regeneration for every Time Lord on Gallifrey with the exception of a few as a thanks," muttered the Lieutenant. He closed the SISO doors. Now he was regenerating. The re-set had damaged his body but cured his illness.
The SISO dematerialised and rematerialised.
Kellie, Catina, Ann and Sandy spilled in.
The SISO dematerialised.
"Kellie, I'm regenerating. You know what that means. Help me explain, please," said the Lieutenant.
Kellie explained what regeneration was and everything that could happen during it and that the Lieutenant needed them to help him through it.
"I've just re-set my Regeneration Cycle. A man helped me to start regenerating. A dying man.I should think he knew I was studying him. His dress sense really helped identify who he was. Me!" said the Lieutenant. "The next me. It's starting."
