Examination

"I don't think I understand this entirely."
He frowns and leans in closer to examine my lunch. I sit back in my chair anticipating what I believe is going to be an entertaining bit of his wisdom.

"It certainly looks real. Considering the shape and texture." He picks one of the pieces up, holds it closer to his eyes and under the light. I'm almost expecting him to take out a magnifying glass. Or run a chemical analysis. Instead he takes a sniff and then looks over to me.
"It smells real, too."
More close examining follows, then he looks at me.
"Do you mind?"

I smile at the seriousness in his question and nod.
"Go ahead. Try it."

He takes a bite and the expression on his face as he chews makes me shake my head. He is looking at nothing specific, slowly chewing, his forehead still a frown. This man amazes me. He is even scientific in the way he tries food...

"So? What is your verdict?"

He looks over at me.
"It tastes close to real chicken. Still, I must admit, I don't see the purpose."

"Nutrition? I require food."

He gives me a fake look of annoyance and it makes me smile. That's usually all it takes. One his his "faces". He doesn't understand when I try to explain it but that's all it takes.
"I'm fully aware of that my dear. But why in this form?" He is turning the nugget in his hand.
"You are vegetarian yet you eat food that is advertised and made up to be a chicken substitute To me that is just confusing."

"First of all it is Chick'n" I make sure to put emphasis on the "n". Showing my teeth. He grins and looks at me with slight disbelief which makes us both smile.
I reach for a piece and take a bite.
"I like that it is an alternative to vegetables or carbohydrates. It is a good source of protein..." I take another bite.
"And it's yummie" I lean back.

He is still smiling. This man is driving me crazy and he's not even trying.

"Well I can maybe agree with that." He takes another bite as well.
"You know... they are really not bad. Better than I expected."

"Better that you expected?"He is not getting away with that one. I enjoy this too much.
"I see, Dr Grissom. Coming to conclusions before examining the evidence." I raise my eyebrow.
"Now I don't know where you acquired these questionable methods."

I get up and walk towards him until we are face to face.

Closely.

One could say "intimately"...

His voice is soft when he answers.
"Miss Sidle, may I remind you that I am your supervisor and maybe you can still learn from said methods."

With that he kisses me and I am more then wiling to study his "methods".
