Remus Lupin loves Halloween. Every year he pesters a particularly sour man for a treat, who is in never a generous mood to give such luxuries. Remus Lupin thinks that this year maybe different.

...

Severus paces towards his quarters, his robes leaving a horrible chill in the air. His quarters are close. He is hurrying. He has no time to intimidate first years or steal candy. He doesn't do candy. Down the stone steps he goes, his boots making a tapping sound that he wishes were more subtle. He murmurs the password and enters his quarters, shutting the door with slight panic then relief. He turns around, jolts in surprise as, to his dismay, the man who he has been trying to avoid all day smiles gleefully from his chair near the fire place.

"Hey Severus!" Remus Lupin greets playfully.

"What are you doing here?" The strictly buttoned man replies.

"It's Halloween!"

"I'm perfectly aware of that… what do you want?" he says a tad too warily. Remus smirks, a calculating expression on his face that unnerves Severus.

"You know perfectly well what I want," Remus articulates. "I want my treat."

"You do this every year Lupin, do I look like I have candy?"

The grouchy, brooding man sighs.

"Nope... you look more like a chocolate person… dark, velvety... yes..."

Severus fixes the man, who is going off on a tangent, a hard stare. Remus bites his bottom lip tantalizingly when he finishes his monologue and grins. Then in two large strides, Severus grabs Remus's lanky arm and pulls him out of the chair "Get up," Severus says sternly and without letting go, forces him towards the door.

"Hey! Hey!" Remus cries struggling, "My treat!"

"I don't have any treats!"

"Well then I think I may just have to trick you into giving me one!" Severus halts abruptly.

"How?" the older man asks in an amused tone.

"Like this," Remus lunges at his colleague and kisses him eagerly, burying his hands in the folds of his robes. To his surprise, Severus gradually becomes just as eager and encourages the caressing, the tongue probing, the hand exploring, so much he's begins to reciprocate these actions.

"Aha! I knew you were hiding something…" Remus half groans, and half squeals, half ignoring the bulge on his lower register as he detaches his mouth. Severus' eyes widen in disbelief as Remus waves, rather weakly, a fresh block of neatly wrapped chocolate. "You don't know how long I've been waiting for this."

"Every year, at the end of October, you pestering werewolf," Severus says. His eyes flicker down at Remus' fingers fooling with the buttons of his shirt and with great difficulty, crushes the urge to insert those long, playful fingers into his mouth.

"Well then… it's about time my pestering found me a trick to land me a treat," Remus mutters, "don't you?"

He closes the annoying space between them.

And the bar of chocolate is left, abandoned.

Because after all, it was never what he was after.
