Willow leaned over the hole in the middle of the Christmas tree lot. Just feet beneath her,

her best friend in the world was fighting for her life. She helped where she could. She'd even

gone so far as to cast a spell to slow the ubervamp down, but it had only worked for a few

moments, then it had gotten right back into the fight.

Robin was flung against the wall, landing hard on the ground. He lay there for a moment,

dazed. He figured if he'd have hit the wall any harder he'd be dead. He knew he should get up.

Get back in the fight. But he couldn't move. As hard as he tried, he couldn't move. "Shit." He

whispered to himself.

Buffy brought her arm up high, Mr. Pointy (Kendra's beloved stake) clenched tightly in her

palm. The ubervamp struggled in Spike's arms. "Take your time, love!" Spike shouted,

sarcastically. Buffy nodded and swung her arm forward. It seemed to happen in slow motion.

The ubervamp finally wrestled free of Spike. Dodged out of the way. "No!" Buffy screamed, as

the stake lodged itself firmly in Spike's heart.

His eyes widened in shock. "B-but..." He whispered, before turning to dust. The stake

slipped out of her hand and gently hit the ground. Rolling to a stop at the feet of the ubervamp.

The creature stooped to pick it up, breathing heavily, as Buffy dropped to her knees. Her tears

mixing with her dead lover's ashes.

Robin stared at Buffy. "God she's beautiful." He thought. He was so busy watching the

mourning slayer that he didn't see the ubervamp until it was upon him. He gasped slightly as the

stake was shoved into his heart. He felt his eyes glaze over, as he saw the thing walk over to

Buffy.

"Buffy!" Willow screamed as the ubervamp wrapped it's arms around her neck. Buffy

welcomed it. The warmth of death enfolding her. She heard her own neck snap and fell face

down in the ashes of her beloved.

Willow jumped to her feet quickly. She didn't cry for Buffy. Couldn't. The war was

beginning. She had known there would be casualties.. They had all known it. She began to run.

Revello Drive wasn't that far. They needed help and she knew exactly who to call.

Kennedy was standing in the doorway when Willow got there. "Where's Buffy? What

happened? I feel...I feel strong." Willow pushed past her, going straight to the phone. "Buffy's

dead." She tossed over her shoulder. "Which means you've been chosen." The card was sitting

by the phone. It had been for two months and Willow had prayed she wouldn't need to use it.

The answering machine picked up on the first ring. "You've reached the headquarters of

Sodalitas Queritos. We're out on assignment right now, but we should be back soon. Please

leave your name, number, and a short description of the phenomena you've encountered and

we'll get back to you as soon as we get back to the office. Thank you."
