Hey guys, this is kind of a sequel to my other story 'I Knew You', you don't need to read it but it will help. This story is set after the events of T.R.A.C.K.S in Ward's point of view but third person and his thoughts will be in italics.
I'm sorry if it's bad, I haven't written in a while (mainly because I'm in a lot of pain as I sprained my ankle at college, word of advice: don't play badminton in walking boots, its been 8 weeks and I'm still limping) and I just had to write this since so many of you loved the first story.
Disclaimer: I own NOTHING! Understand? Good, because I don't.
The plane is flying as fast as it can towards the nearest SHIELD hospital, Skye barely alive in the hyperbaric chamber and Agent Ward just meters away from her punching away at the punch bag, his anger raging in him (the berserker staff incident not helping with this). His punches get harder with every thought that ran through his mind. She shouldn't have gone in alone! *Punch* I should have trained her more. *Punch* I should have been there. *PUNCH* I should have protected her. *PUNCH* I should have protected her! *PUNCH* I broke my promise! *PUNCH* I broke my fucking promise! I wasn't there to protect her! *PUNCH PUNCH PUNCH* She's dying because I didn't save her! I didn't protect her! I didn't keep my promise! *PUNCH PUNCH PUNCH PUNCH PUNCH* The last hit almost pulled the punch bag from its hinges as ward moves away, his back hits the labs doors and he slides now them, his head in his hands. "It wasn't your fault, you know". Ward looks up to see Fitz standing in front of him. "This shouldn't have happened. She shouldn't be hurt, I promised I would keep her safe, I broke my promise". "You can't protect her form everything" the Scottish accent Ward had become so used to has now became difficult to understand, or maybe Grant's brain doesn't want to hear these words. Fighting to keep tears back the taller agent looks at Fitz who is now sitting beside him, "You don't understand Fitz. We were just kids, innocent kids trying to escape the evil of the world". "Want to talk about it? 'Cause, you know, talking helps, instead of punching and breaking stuff". Ward hesitated a little, "When I was twelve my family had a kid stay with us for a couple of months, my brother threatened her and I promised to look after her, to protect her. She was only seven years old... She was Skye. I broke that promise today Fitz. I know what happened today wasn't my fault but I - I should have been there, I should have protected her, this wouldn't have happened if I kept my promise". Grant looks at a shocked Fitz who is obviously trying to digest the news that the older agent and the hacker knew each other as children, the look on his face also shows that he is trying to figure out what to say next, after a minute or two the scientist finally replies, "I'm not going to say she's going to be okay because I don't know that but if she pulls through this, you will get a second chance to keep that promise. Stay positive, she's a fighter, she can survive this". "Thanks Fitz. I could do with a drink, you coming?" Ward asks, standing up and heading towards the metal stairs, turning back to look at the younger Scot then at the dying girl in the machine. Yeah, I need a whiskey, it's been a long day". Both men look at Skye with sorrow in their eyes as they silently head upstairs for a drink.
Sorry, I know its short and rushed but this was all I could come up with as it is nearly 11pm and I have to be on the 7.30 bus to college in the morning, any British readers should understand how college works over here in England.
I hope you like this, please, please, please review! I love your reviews, good and bad... Well, not the bad ones but still, reviews!
