Well... Here's this. Enjoy, and God bless!
Blue eyes stared out of a stained glass window - images were printed across it, colors of blues, reds and greens, all different hues and shades – nothing else in the building held as many colorful stories hidden inside.
Everything else was brown, and incredibly… quiet. The stained glass brought everything to life, and gave him solace.
Twenty-years-old and looking for the deep-seated joy, for where it came from. Who gave it. It was a who, not a thing – not a place. Where was this who?
He came for answers, ones that were kept deep inside the cathedral, locked away yet right there for anyone who came searching.
And he had come the moment he had been called to do so.
Rain fell just outside, the sound it made was like water echoing down a long hallway – thunder echoed and rumbled, crashing in the night sky.
A book was on the seat beside him; brown leather with a golden cross was etched onto its cover.
Cade reached for it, letting the old pages fall open.
"Though you have not seen Him, you love Him' – and even though you do not see Him now, you believe in Him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy,"'
The connection to the worn book was warm and subtle – a welcoming, open embrace that kept his eyes locked on the was sweeter than honey, and better than any wine.
"God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that he should change his mind. Does He speak and then not act? Does He promise and not fulfill?" There. God. That was who –
"For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God."
Those were the first things that Cade came to know of his God – He is more than the changeable earthly things, like the sand on the beach and the wind through the days. He was jealous; He made no room for other gods.
"For the LORD your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory."
He is a God who doesn't abandon.
"You yourselves have seen everything the LORD your God has done to all these nations for your sake; it was the LORD your God who fought for you."
He is a Protector.
"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations."
The young man stayed in the sturdy building, reading of the Truth until the dawn broke, and the sun woke the city from its slumber.
