The time of night had come for the students of Woodview Elementary school to gather in the school gym for the dance. But Theodore "Tobey" McCallister III would rather be anywhere else. He didn't enjoy going to school during the day, why on earth would he want to be there at night as well? With a bunch of not-nearly-as-smart-as-him kids that he didn't want to tolerate each and every day. He'd rather be anywhere else.

But his mother had insisted that he go, because it was a good chance to 'make some friends'. But he didn't want to be at a dance to make friends and hang out with them and dance with them, because they were all inferior to him; and besides that, the only person he wanted to dance with was too super-busy to bother. Plus he knew that even if she wasn't busy, she wouldn't want to dance with him anyways; what hero would want to spend quality time with a villain? Not this superhero, that's for sure.

So when he had seen her fly into the school gym, he was happy; no, he was elated. Finally, someone who actually has a chance at even comprehending When she zoomed out after dropping off Two-Brains and his henchmen (although god knows why they were spending time at a school dance instead of prison, as they'd obviously just committed a crime and had been caught) without even seeing him long enough to give him a chance to ask her to stay a while and dance with him, he returned to the corner of the room to stand, fold his arms and mope.

Less than a moment later, Tobey caught Becky rushing in to the gym, late to the event as she was basically everything else that she was supposed to attend (which added to his growing list of reasons to suspect that Becky Bottsford is Wordgirl). Tobey, although he knew he didn't like her, like he didn't everyone else in the school, somehow felt compelled to approach her and ask her to dance. He'd never actually do it, of course, for several reasons. They didn't like each other; they were rivals. Rivals don't dance together. Even if he ever admitted to liking her, even as a friend, there's no way she'd ever like him back; he knew he'd been too much of a jerk to her. She was having enough fun with her friends anyways, he didn't want to disrupt that by making her suspicious of him.

So instead, he stood there miserably, watching his classmates enjoy themselves. He'd never be happy among these simpletons, he thought, but somehow a feeling inside of him said that maybe, just maybe, Becky could change that one day.

That is, if she'd ever give him the chance. But why would that ever happen? Why would such a beautiful, intelligent, brave, wonderful girl give some building-smashing, selfish, stuck up and annoying boy a remote chance to even be her friend?

And that was the cold hard truth he had faced: he thought there was no chance. So he didn't try at it. Instead he just stood by, watching everyone else have fun. And that was that.

It was too bad he didn't realize just how wrong he was.

So yeah. I was watching 'The Fill-In' and I noticed that at the end at the dance, there's like, a brief second of Tobey at the dance! I was like OMG NO WAY! XD He was miserable too, so that's where this came from. Plus that's why its so short. (yeah sorry 'bout that…) but anyways, review!
