AN: S3, the G-rex on the airfeild episode. Just... basically what went through Conn's mind in those moments. Because I get this little lurch everytime i see that episode, and I know I'd have been a nervous wreck at the end of all that, so... yeah.
He didn't stop to think, not really. He had a plan, and contingencies and effects of that plan were not even considered. Not then. He left Abby's car and went straight for the airplane lorry, putting it in drive and pulling out in front of the rampaging G-Rex so it would chase him instead of the others.
The fear didn't kick in, not yet. Connor slammed on the brakes. He didn't consider what would happen when the G-Rex stumbled over the lorry, until after he'd smacked his head and stars danced in front of his eyes. The world was tilting and shifting dizzily. He didn't grab the gun as he stumbled out of the lorry, leaving the door swining behind him. He felt like he was going to be sick. The world spun around him and Connor fell to the ground. He reached a hand up; his head really hurt. Connor touched the back of his head, and then looked at his fingers, quailing at the blood a little. You never really get used to that.
And then, the earth shook beneath him, the vibrations travelling along his body. Terrified, Connor turned onto his back, pressing as close as he could into the pavement as the muzzle, full of deadly sharp teeth, swam into view a foot from his face. He held his breath, eyes wide, heart thudding a rapid pace and it was all Connor could to to stop himself from giving into the flight-or-fight reaction and running. Because that would ensure his death.
The G-Rex opened its maw, and Connor squeazed his eyes shut, bracing himself for the pain.
I don't regret it, not really. He thought in that moment. I just regret never telling Abby how I really feel about her... I'm sorry Abs. I love you. He said silently, shaking slightly. He waited for the G-rex to close those mighty jaws around his small frame, waited for the split-second agony he knew he would experience.
But it never came. Instead, he heard the sound of a helicopter flying over head, closer and closer. The hot, stinkign breath of the monster dinosaur vanished, leaving Connor quivering on the ground.
Alive.
Safe.
Connor slowly opened his eyes, looking around to see the G-Rex chasing a helicopter. shakily, he got to his feet, the nausea had passed and the world wasn't spinning anymore. And surprisingly enough he didn't need a change of pants. He'd thought he was going to, at the end of that.
There were little miracles, he supposed.
