Summary: "For Ursa had once been Zuko's savior. She'd been there to chase away the nightmares. But now Mai was the Prince's savoir." Maizu

Disclaimer: I don't own Avatar the Last Airbender. If I did, Mai would be part of the gAang :)

Rating: K+ for...ya know...K+ stuff

So thank you to everyone who favorited 'Drowsy'. I honestly cannot understand why everyone likes it so much, I'm not much of a fan of it. I've been trying to write more Naruto stuff but I have SakuraxSasuke writers block. I blame the latest manga chapters.

So I wrote this a few months ago actually for kicks and sh-ts. I am just now posting it for lack of other things to post. R&R please!!

"Mother…"

Thunder boomed somewhere in the distance. Mai woke up, startled by the thunder, and sat up in the big bed. The dark red satin sheets fell away from around her. A light rain had dampened the large window of the Fire Nation palace. Lightening cracked off in the distance.

"Mother…" Mai looked over at Zuko, who was lying next to her. He was having a nightmare, she could tell. He shoulder's were hunched, his fists clenched tight enough to see the bone underneath. The dark sheets were thrown off his bare back, his face was contorted in pain, and he was calling his mother's name.

Mai looked over him with sympathy. It wasn't easy for him, she knew. He always pretended like it didn't bother him. He never brought her up. But at night, she haunted him in his dreams. Princess Ursa.

Mai leaned back into the bed and held Zuko to her. She calmly stroked the back of his head while murmuring quietly to him. "Shh, Zuko, it's okay Zuko. It's okay Zuko, I'm here." Mai went on murmuring this to her Prince.

Zuko woke up suddenly, but clung to Mai, like a small child. Zuko buried his face in her shoulder, shivering from his latest nightmare. "I couldn't save her." He whispered. Mai kissed the top of his head and kept stroking his hair. "Shh. You'll find her Zuko, you'll save her." He lifted his face, his golden eyes looking into her sleepy silver ones.

Mai leaned forward and kissed his scar. "Don't doubt yourself." She whispered. She coaxed Zuko onto her, stroking his back now, trying to get him back to sleep. Calming down, Zuko put his head onto her chest, listening to the steady beat of her heart. Mai smiled tranquilly to no one after a short time. Every night, he had a nightmare. Every night, Mai lulled him back to sleep and chased away his fears.

For Ursa had once been Zuko's savior. She'd been there to chase away the nightmares. But now Mai was the Prince's savoir. Now it was Mai who held him and encouraged him, it was her heartbeat he listened to so he could quiet down. Mai could never replace the warmth of a mother, but Mai could fill the hole in him. And with that, both Mai and Zuko were content.
