A squeal erupted from Dougie's mouth as he went high on his swing. His daddy pushing him up higher and higher.

"Hold on thight Dougs," the low voice of his father warned.

"Yes, daddy, can I go higher still?" he asked enthusiastically.

His dad gave him a few big pushes and then stepped away from the swing. Dougie's swing quickly slowed down now his father had stopped pushing him. "Aww dad, why'd you stop?''

''I was just gonna sit with your mum for a while son, you can play on your own for a while, right?"

Dougie nodded and ran towards the slide on the other end of the playground. He quickly climbed up the steps and decided to slide down on his belly. He giggled as he landed face first into the sand on the end of the slide. He ran towards the sandpit and started to make a sandcastle. It was hard though without a bucket and spade. " Help, help," he said in a high voice," please knight come save me!'' ''Rawr,'' he roared like a dragon. ''Knight, knight where are you, please save me from the dragon!'' ''Princess where are you?'' the knight called. ''Up here knight, at the tower of the castle.'' ''Don't be afraid my lady I'll save you!''

The other kids on the playground looked oddly at the little boy in the sandpit and scooted away from him. There was one little boy that curiously walked a little closer. Dougie didn't seem to notice any of this though, too enthralled in his imagination. Suddenly someone stood in front of him though. He glanced up towards a brown-haired boy. He held his hand outstretched in front of Dougie's face and Dougie slowly reached up to shake it.

"I'm Harry,'' the boy said in a posh voice, ''and you?"

''Dougie,'' Dougie whispered.

''Sorry, what'd you say?'' the boy asked.

''I'm Dougie,'' Dougie said this time a little louder.

''Can I play with you?'' Harry asked.

''Uhm, yeah I guess…" he said.

"What are you playing?''

''Knight and princess,'' little Dougie said, ''You can be the knight.''

''Will I have to save you than or are you the dragon?''

"I'll be the princess, then you can be my knight.'' Dougie said shyly.

Harry grinned and sat down in the sand next to Dougie. "Don't worry princess Dougette, I'll save you!'' Harry said cheerfully.

They soon got engrossed in their little imaginary world. Until Dougie's mummy called to tell him they were going home. "Say goodbye to your new friend Dougie," his mum said.

"Bye Harry, I hope we can play together again soon."

"I hope so too, Doug, today was real fun. And you were a nice princess."

Dougie blushed slightly and said "You were a great knight, you can always be my knight Harry."

He took his mummy's hand and waved Harry goodbye.

"Bye Dougie!'' Harry called one last time.

"I really like Harry mummy, he was a really good knight." Dougie said as they walked towards the car.

''I'm glad you had fun darling.''

"Will we go to the park again soon?'' he asked his parents trying to stifle his yawn.

''Sure kiddo, go sleep now I know you're tired after this day," his father said. And soon enough Dougie had drifted off to sleep, dreaming of knight and princesses.
