As Albus Dumbledore stares at the gold locket he retrieved, he laments over his past wrongs. Albus Dumbledore was a good man--but even a good man makes mistakes. A story about Dumbledore's regrets over the lost boy--the hero he had denied: Regulus Black.

A/N: I made this partially because of a fanfiction meme and partly because of the shoking realization that the regulus/albus pairing (not romantic) had no stories in its collection!! This is truly surprising news to me. How has no one else used the incredibly interesting dynamic that is regulus/albus in a story?? So, to satisfy my said needs, I have created this fic. Please enjoy the ONLY fic written for this fandom. :D

One look was all it took. One look to settle once and for all, the all consuming doubts that had plagued me late into the night and tightened my heart with its every remeniscence.

One sneaking look inside at that heavy gold locket--as I had placed it into my robe with a slightly shaky hand--was all I needed to confirm the sneaking suspicion that had crept into my heart,and threatened to consume me with guilt, regret and grief for all these achingly long years.

Regulus Artucus Black was a hero.

A hero the world would never acknowledge; and a hero I had denied for all these long years.
