My first supernatural customer was a vampire. His name was Lie Ren. I saw him standing in the doorway and had to invite him in. I had to do that the next day, too. And on the third day. After I knew a little more, I set out a welcome mat so that he and others like him could come in at any time.
My second supernatural customer was his girlfriend, Nora, a valkyrie. This was not hard to discern, considering that her last name was Valkyrie.
My third supernatural customer was a shape-shifting dragon named Yang Xiao Long. She was clearly well-known in the supernatural community, because after that the customers arrived thick and fast, no two of them precisely alike. Pyrrha Nikos, a shape-shifting phoenix. Weiss and Winter Schnee, yuki-onna sisters. Blake Belladonna, a werecat, and her satori boyfriend, Sun Wukong. Neptune Vasilias, a selkie. Emerald Sustrai, a djinn. Ruby Rose, a werewolf. (She and Blake, while not particularly close, did manage to get along reasonably well.) Penny Polendina, an automaton. Velvet Scarlatina, a jackalope. Qrow Branwen, a fae shapeshifter.
At any rate, it soon became common knowledge that Arc's Bar was the place to go if you were a "monster" who wanted to socialize, relax, and be themselves.
That was the root of the trouble, that it became known.
Adam Taurus, Blake's abusive minotaur ex, found out that she came to my bar sometimes. Blake found out that he knew, and stopped coming for a while. I don't blame her; the guy's vicious. When he learned that she was hiding from him, he decided he would force me to tell him. He made it clear that he was finding her so that he could kill her. When I didn't talk…
The ransom note said that I would tell him where to find her if I wanted to see my baby sister alive ever again. At least that's what they told me after the fact.
See, I was home sick that day. I had hired a few of the creatures who seemed to have a hard time finding jobs- Penny and Velvet- to work at the bar, so they were in charge that day. Once they found the ransom note, they showed it to everyone. Then Yang had a plan.
They never found Adam's body. Hard to find something like that when he was frozen to the ground, mauled by a wolf, drained of blood, then burned to ashes.
I'm pretty close with the regulars at my bar. Adam Taurus found out the hard way.
