Sealed
They were alone. Just the two of them. And an unseen guest they liked to call confortable silence.
The fire in the kiln cackled with life. She felt the warmth of the fire as she stared at the pots being burnt. They stay long in the fire until they can be strong enough to stand on their own, she thought.
She glanced at the person beside her who was staring blankly into the kiln. She saw his lips twitch once in a while as if wanting to start a conversation but hesitating to do so. She tilted her head to see another angle of his handsome face. The face she will have to not see for four years.
That thought depressed her. Though she didn't want to admit it, it really does. Just the fact that he'd be away scared her. Not that he will go wild overseas. Not that she didn't trust him because she did. With all her heart. It's not also because he did not change. He did. At least, that's what she knew.
He was going to Sweden. It was half-way around the world and their connection would be nothing much but cellphones and e-mails. It would be sufficient, but for her, it wasn't just enough.
Not now.
She silently prayed his flight would be cancelled. That a big storm would come up from nowhere just so he can stay a little longer. But she was being so selfish. She knew it was for the better. She knew things would work out for them.
She loves him, she thought quietly. She sighed and smiled. It somehow felt good she was honest to herself.
Yi Jeong turned to her with an unreadable expression but with a smile, nonetheless. She smiled back. Just seeing him like that somehow brings more hope to her heart. She did her usual looking-at-everywhere things to not make ittoo obvious.
His promise rang in her ears. She knew he would keep it. And she would trust it, have faith in it and someday she knew she won't regret it. It wasn't much. But it was a good start. Especially for their kind of relationship.
"Ga Eul-yang?" Yi Jeong broke her reverie.
Her head shot up both in surprise and hope.
He smiled gently with a hint of nervousness. "Saranghae."
Her body moved before she could even think. The next thng she knew, she was hugging him tightly. She felt his strong arms slowly wrapping her back.
She moved away first, kind of embarrassed of her sudden actions. She smiled at him. She wanted to say a lot. She wanted to hug him again. But she didn't know what to do. Her throat went dry that she couldn't speak at all.
He looked at her, hopeful for a mutual answer.
She smiled. The promise and now this? Yi Jeong sunbae, you make my world go round. She knew she was sealed.
"Saranghaeyo."
