Flywhisker braced herself as searing pain rippled through her body. She found it difficult to breathe; however, her determination gave her the strength to endure. Just one life left.
When Bramblestar had died, chaos spread throughout ThunderClan. Ivypool, her brother's mate, had been killed during the fight for power.
Everycat thought that it was going to be Sparkpelt, as she had been the one to kill Ivypool. But alas...
Her nerves soothed as did her pain, as she noticed a faint shape drift among the darkness that surrounded the Moonpool.
"Twigbranch!"
Memories sparked inside her mind, as she remembered her fallen mentor.
"I would be lying if I said I expected this fron you," her mentor's whiskers twitched with amusement. She never really thought much of me...
"But the way you fought that dog, during your warrior assessment..." Twigbranch shook her head in disbelief. "I saw a different side of you that day. And this life reflects that."
She touched her nose to Flywhisker's forehead, and cold fear gripped the nervous tabby's limbs. It wasn't painful... but the absolute inability to speak or smell was worse than any pain she had ever endured.
"I give you a life for seeing all sides. I only saw you as an anxious apprentice..." Twigbranch sighed, and the stars that lit her pelt flickered faintly. "But it took until I joined StarClan to realize you are so much more."
Finally Flystar could speak. "Thank you. I'm glad you were my mentor."
Twigbranch narrowed her eyes respectfully before bounding off into the infinite fields and forests of StarClan, leaving Flystar mostly alone, barring Alderheart's quiet presence.
"Are you okay, Flystar?" Alderheart mewed, concern pricking his mew. "Are you ready to select a deputy?"
Flystar nodded quickly, having made her decision long before Sparkpelt's blood fed the earth. A golden tabby pelt and warm amber eyes appeared in her mind. I know just the cat.
