"Close your eyes."

I closed my eyes. He hesitantly put his arms around me and I felt the difference almost immediately. The sun felt hotter. The air felt drier. And it smelled fresh and clean.

"Open your eyes," he said as he removed his hands from my waist a little too quickly. I felt the guilt crawl up my throat.

I slowly open my eyes and looked at the landscape in front of me. Below me there were bright green and yellow plains. Dark bushes spread across the plains farther away. They looked small, like tiny dots. The sky was blue and had a few puffs of clouds floating around the sun. I could feel the sun baking the top of my head. The plains seemed to go on forever past the tall hills. It was breathtaking.

"I was born here on Mount Kyllini, or at least that's what they tell me." I could almost hear the small smile in his voice. I turned around and faced him.

"Thank you for showing me this, James. It's beautiful." He shrugged. Then looked at the ground and kicked a rock around in the dirt. "I really am grateful."

He looked up at me when he heard my voice. I quickly wrapped my arms around him and gave him a hug. I buried my face into his chest and smelled his familiar scent. I looked up to see him staring at me with an expressionless face. I smiled halfheartedly, knowing that he can see right through me. He gave a small smile, but his eyes looked more distant than they usually did. I frowned.

I intertwined our hands and looked down from his face. "I'm sorry."

"I know."

We stayed like that for a few minutes then broke apart. Guilt swam through me again. I turned away from him and closed my eyes trying to stop them from forming tears. I seemed to be doing that a lot lately. Less than before, but often enough.

"Maybe we should go," said James. I didn't move or say anything, afraid of what would happen if I did. But James understood me without words. He slowly wrapped his arms around me. "Close your eyes."

My eyes were already closed. Even once I knew we were back, I kept my eyes closed, and leaned on James. Somehow I slowly grew unconscious. As I was nearly asleep, I could feel someone's warm breath tickling my ear.

"I will always love you, Kate."
