In slips the knife, breaking the skin and I slice around till it has cut all the way through. Liquid pours out constantly, drenching my hands in the slippery, sticky substance. I prepare the salve out of herbs, brown powder and water. I pick up the recently carved slice and apply the mixture, coating it entirely. Leaving the delicate slice, I store the rest away in the fridge for another day. Returning to the slice, I pick up the knife. Slowly and expertly I carve out the middle, the unwanted. Then I remove the skin, all hard and leathery. Disposing of the waste is quickly accomplished, though just before I can enjoy my treat I clean up the now drying liquid. Then I pick up the slice and enjoy my pineapple.
