A/N: So..nighttime drabbles before sleeping anyone? For readers who have read my other work, I am truly sorry and shall update my fics, but at a later date, as tests loom closer. For now though, I think I may just pop out the occasional drabble. Enjoy!

Sleep.

Alfred needed, no, scratch that, he outright craved it, like a junkie on a high of heroine and could never get enough. When searching through the deep prowess of his home for some, he felt like a lost man, stranded in the sahara, searching for an oasis. And when, if, he did find some, it was shattered all too soon by the mind-blowing reality that he was swallowing mouthfuls of dry sand, and not sweet water.

He loved his children, he truly did, but this was just getting ridiculous.

Holding Arden in his arms, he made sure that he was holding the babe's head protectively in his arm and slowly rocked him back and forth as he wailed and wailed and wailed. Alfred had woken up in the dead of night upon hearing crying from the baby monitor, and, despite his own needs, quickly made his way over to the culprit and tried to soothe him back to sleep.

Easier said than done.

He had been up since 1am and it was nearing 4. Alfred almost collapsed in relief when the cries from his child were getting quieter and it seemed that after all of the toys, clean nappies, milk and lullabies, he was finally going to fall back into dreamland. Of course, fate simply can't have that, now can it?

The very moment he placed Arden into his soft, warm crib, higher pitch cries could he heard closely by and he groaned at the prospect of having to stay awake three hours more to get Amelia to sleep. However, when he made his way over to the crib, someone had put a hand around his wrist. He turned, worried in his sleep deprived mind that it may be an intruder, but soon relaxed when he recognised the scent.

"Go back to bed love, you've been up long enough as it is."

Finding no room to argue, Alfred simply nodded, and after a chaste kiss from his mate, lumbered up to bed to where his treasured sleep awaited him.
