A/N: Okay, so, originally I started writing this story in 2012. But I gave up it/ got distracted with other things. And my interest in writing has recently come back to me. So I decided to come back and revise the original three chapters. Anything in italics will signify thoughts. Anything in bold will just signify a certain word being emphasized. Everything else is just dialog. The lines of X's will be breaks throughout the chapter signifying a short amount of time that has passed. …. Hopefully I'll be able to update soon and hopefully ya'll will like the story.

Disclaimer: I don't own Pokemon. That belongs to Nintendo. Yada, yada, yada. Enjoy!

At seven a.m on the dot, a loud and continuous chirp emerged from an alarm clock and spanned across the residence. It rang thrice before being silenced by a more than forceful swat.

Whoops! Sorry Mister Alarm Clock!

The girl bolted up from her bed, glancing at the clock she had pushed onto the floor before gently setting it back onto the nightstand.

After making sure the glass was intact, she proceeded in a near run towards the bathroom to get ready. The door slammed behind her. She squirted out some toothpaste from its tube and onto her toothbrush. Staring at her reflection in the mirror, she began to brush her teeth rapidly.

Today was the big day! Today was the day when she'd officially become a pokemon trainer!

...She slumped over the sink with a groan, her toothbrush suspended in place between her lips. So why was she so nervous? Her tummy was performing more flips and leaps than a professional acrobat.

A knock at the bathroom door brought her out her tumultuous thoughts.

"Sweetie? Are you almost finished in there? You're going to be late!"

She froze at her grandmother's warnings. Luckily, she had expected herself to chicken-out to the point that she might be late. Yes, that's right! She had expected this of herself last night and had prepped for this situation like someone might prep for a zombie apocalypse.

Thank heavens I packed almost everything up last night…

She straightened her back and faced herself in the mirror; her reflection glaring back at her with a frown. I…I promised Granny and Grandpa. I have to at least try.

"Be right out, Granny!" And with that, she brushed her teeth with such haste that she thought she might rip her gums out. That is, until she really did prick her gums so harshly that it bled. "Oww..." she whined; the pain reminded her to never brush that fast again.

She picked up a nearby comb and began to run in through her hair. She winced every time the teeth of the comb fought viciously with the tangled knots. After finishing, she gave herself a once-over in the mirror. There was still a tuft of wild, red curls hanging precariously in front of her eyebrows. She leaned over and went through the drawers of the vanity until she found what she was looking for.

"Here we go," she picked up the hairclip she desperately sought after and held it in her mouth for a moment. Pulling up the accusing strands of hair, she accommodated the curls further back on her head and pinned them in place with the pearled clip. Satisfied with how she looked, she unlocked the bathroom door and moved into the hallway.

Her grandmother stood by the wall decorated with picture frames and peeling wallpaper. Her hands were busy untying the lilac apron strapped to her body.

"Good morning, Lucy," greeted the elderly woman.

She glanced around anxiously as she approached her grandmother. She was trying her best to ignore the wafting scents coming from the kitchen. Instead of fueling her appetite, the smell of cooking caused her stomach to twist violently.

"Good morning, Grandma. Did you sleep well?"

"Why of course. And yourself dear?" Before she could answer the question, she was tackled from behind. A tackle gentle enough to not knock her over, but with enough force to make her totter a bit.

"Mag, Mag!"

"Igni!" She had been so riled up about future events that she'd forgotten to give her good mornings to Igni! She turned to him and lowered to his level before giving him a soft pat on the head.

"Good morning, Igni."

Said pokemon cooed at his trainer's greetings.

"And I slept so-so, Grandma."

Her grandmother smiled at Igni before turning to Lucy and offering her hand. "That's normal, darling. Sometimes it's hard to sleep when you're too excited."

Lucy took her hand graciously. Her grandmother moved it so as the link their arms together. She patted gently at Lucy's hand before walking together towards the kitchen. "Fresh apricot pancakes. Just the way you two like them," she soothingly announced.

Lucy's stomach churned. She opened her mouth to excuse herself from breakfast but was cut from the action by a tugging at her shorts. Igni was smiling up at her, as if urging her to join him for the treat. Then the young Magby ran eagerly towards the kitchen, obviously expecting Lucy to follow. Lucy looked towards the direction for a while before finally sighing. She hunched over slightly and decided to walk to the kitchen to eat with her family. Maybe a little bite wouldn't upset her stomach too much. Besides, how on Earth could she say no to her adorable Magby's face?

She shuffled over to the oval, dining table and drew out a chair for Igni, who was struggling to clamber up onto a chair by himself. She arranged and rearranged the silverware lying by her plate as she waited for her breakfast to be served. Igni curiously stared at her actions before promptly mimicking her. He tried grasping at the fork, having it slip once before he could get a good grip on it and move it aside. He stopped and observed his trainer once more when she began to play with the ornate tablecloth.

"Alright, here come the pancakes! Be careful; they're still hot!" Her grandmother set down a plate stacked with pancakes in front of them. She placed three cups, each on their corresponding placemats, and poured fresh orange juice into each of them.

"Thank you, G-grandma. Um, can you bri-"

"Syrup. Of course," the woman turned slightly and reached over for a brown pitcher. "Here, pour as much on your pancakes as you want." She was about to go back to the kitchen when she spotted the pout Igni was giving her.

"Oh my! I almost forgot," she gasped dramatically before she tenderly scratched Igni's head, "Here are some berries for you, Igni!"

Igni chirped gleefully and dug into his berry breakfast, much to her grandmother's delight. She hobbled back to the oven and focused her attention on frying the bacon to an even crispier state.

Lucy opened the peak of the pitcher and drizzled some syrup onto her stack of three pancakes. She gingerly grabbed her utensils and began to cut up the pancakes into sizable pieces.

"Want some Igni?" Her response was a quick grunt and a gaping mouth. She giggled as she watched him chew the bit of pancake with puckered lips. "Y-yeah, the apricots can taste a little sour. Sorry Igni."

She went back to dedicating time her plate. She munched on a couple of pieces of pancake and squirmed slightly as her tongue made contact with the apricots, but, after a while, she resorted to just staring at her food. She couldn't muster the motivation to eat any more food and, instead, opted to play with the slices of apricots that remained. As she speared some of the fruit with her fork, her grandfather appeared by the doorway and bellowed out his good mornings. He planted a kiss onto her grandmother's cheek before going to sit at the table.

"So! Are you ready for your big day, Champ?" He proclaimed with a joyous guffaw and a pat on his belly.

She cringed. He always tended to be too enthusiastic in the mornings. "Uh… Yeah. Hahahaha…."

Her grandfather nodded his head. He smacked Igni lightly on the top of his head before leaning over to give a kiss to Lucy.

"Well," he began, "It's a shame that you don't want to be a breeder. If you ever reconsider this whole 'being an Elite Four member' idea, then you should con-". He halted his words when he noticed the scowl on his wife's face He mouthed a 'What'd I do?' before deciding it was best to just focus on his breakfast.

"Let her be; if you keep distracting her she'll be late to the group." She chided at her husband as she pried the bacon off the frying pan and onto his plate. "I think it'd be best to head out now, Lucy, if you're done with your breakfast."

Lucy stared at her grandma blankly before nodding in agreement. She pushed aside her plate and got up from her place at the table.

"Are you ready Igni?" She had nearly yelled her question, relieved that her grandmother wasn't going to force her to finish her breakfast. Igni squealed in agreement and jumped off his chair before dashing towards Lucy's room, with Lucy following suit.

"Lucy! Don't forget to take your letter with you!"

"Can I finish eating our pancakes for you?!" Her grandpa happily took the silence as a 'yes'; but before he could take a bite, he paled at the shake of his wife's head. "What? ...No, really, What'd I do wrong?"

"No more pancakes for you," she replied curtly. She swiped the pancake plate from underneath him.

"Why not?!"

"Because, the poor girl is nervous. And talking so much about what she should or should not in her life do worries her. It's best if she just jumps into this trip of hers instead of talking about it too much." She moved to picked up the rest of the plates from the table.

"Well, I, for one, think she shouldn't just jump into things without thinking."

"I'm not saying she should just jump into things without thinking, I'm just saying that in this ca-"

She stopped mid-sentence at the sight of Lucy slinking back into the kitchen.

"I'm…just gonna grab an apricot slice or two for later," she mentioned as she placed the slices into a small, plastic bag. And, with that, she scurried back to her room.

She emerged from her room once more after gathering all her things. She busied herself with stuffing a couple of folded documents into her knapsack. "Grandma," she called, "I think you forgot to sign this." She presented the remaining paper in her hand to her grandmother.

"All right, let's see…" Her grandmother's eyes perused the printed document in front of her; she trailed one finger against the faded font of the typed words. "Huh. I could have sworn I signed these registration papers," she muttered before scribbling out her signature.

"I remember you signed the release forms, Grandma, but not this one. Ah, T-thank you," she grabbed the papers from her grandmother and shoved them back into her bag.

Igni came out from Lucy's room and pattered into the kitchen where Lucy and her grandmother stood. He stumbled somewhat over a dislodged tile on the floor but quickly regained his composure and reached over to clutch Lucy's hand.

Lucy smiled at him for a moment before turning to face her grandmother again. "Well…I guess I s-should start heading out."

"Michael!"

Her grandfather nearly choked at the commanding shout that erupted from his wife. He wiped at the corners of his mouth with the sleeve of his shirt and rose from the table. "Ehem. We'll see you two out, then."

The little family lumbered over to the foyer and stood by the doorway. Her grandmother hovered over her and smoothened the strands of hair on her head that had decided to perk up again. "You should tighten up the strap on this thing, honey. It'll save you a back-ache," she pulled at the strap of the knapsack and adjusted it to fit more snugly atop her shoulder.

"Thanks, Grandma."

"Well, in my honest opinion, I think this day arrived way too fast." Lucy swore she heard her grandfather choke up a little bit before continuing. "A-anyways! Remember to present all your papers to the Professor, kiddo. And to stick close to your group's guide."

"G-got it. Stick close and show papers. B-bye Grandpa," she whispered against his shoulder as she embraced him.

"Goodbye, pumpkin. I'll be rooting for ya!"

She turned to her grandmother and circled her arms around her thin neck. "Gu'bye, Gran," she muttered before tightening her hold against the woman.

"Goodbye, sweetie," replied the old woman softly before pressing her lips closer to her granddaughter's ear. "Look for a little pouch I put into your bag. I packed some sweets and other things you like," she whispered.

"Ann, really?! You shouldn't give her so much candy!" He sighed, obviously exasperated at his wife. "Poor girl's gonna get cavities."

"Oh, Hush!" She looked down at Lucy. "I think it's time to get going, sweetie."

Her grandmother had to nearly pry her off. Igni, on the other hand, nearly forgot to give his good-bye hugs. His excitement to head out and start this adventure was much greater than Lucy's own excitement, as evident by the incessant tugging at her pants.

"Lucy." Said girl snapped out of her reverie when her grandmother placed a hand on her shoulder. "Good luck." The old woman's eyes crinkled from the toothy grin she offered to her granddaughter.

Lucy hunched up a bit before shooting back a smile of her own, although it paled in comparison.

"Oh! That's right!" The woman gave her husband a sudden slap on the belly as she bounced up a bit. "Michael, be a dear and get her present."

"Present?" Lucy piped curiously as the old man shuffled back towards the bedrooms with a huff.

The grandmother laughed weakly before answering. "We scrounged up a bit of money to buy you something. A little present for your tenth birthday."

"But…. I thought you said this adventure was going to be my only present."

"Oh hush up child! Those words were said by your grandfather, who's a dirty cheapskate! Luckily, I'm pretty good at convincing him to spend money."

"Umm… but are you really sure th-"

"Yes. Anyhow," the woman quickly interrupted before her granddaughter could question the decision any further and turned to her husband as he returned with the gift. "If you won't think of it as a birthday present then think of it as a going away present."

Lucy took the rectangular box into her hands; she gave a hesitant nod before going on to slowly unwrap it.

"I hope you like the Pokegear, Champ!"

Oh. Screw the pretty gift-wrap!

With those words, the girl was suddenly overcome with a giddiness and excitement that can only be witnessed in a child who has a new toy. A new, and quite expensive, toy.

"You Muk! It was supposed to be a surprise!"

Lucy was sure her grandmother could have made her grandfather combust with the glare she was giving him, if it would've been physically possible. She snorted at the thought of her grandmother suddenly having heat-vision abilities. Sparing them a quick glance, she quickly went back to staring at the sleek device in her hands.

"Thank you, Thank you!" She quickly gave her grandparents another round of hugs.

"Oh-ho! Yes, yes. Now you can give us calls anytime you want! It, unfortunately, is the most basic model so it doesn't have the map or radio features."

"It doesn't matter," she wrapped the leather cord attached to the base of the device around it and tucked it safely inside her bag. "It's perfect!"

"But you must hurry along now! Go on, go," urged her grandmother. She placed her both her hands gently against Lucy's back.

"R-right!" She opened the door and, with a reassuring push from both her grandparents, stepped out onto the path in the tiny garden.

"You can do it, pumpkin!" She heard her grandfather's encouraging shriek emerge out through the window and with that, she straightened her back once more and walked a couple more steps down the dirt road. Her eyes trailed from flower to familiar flower as she left the garden. In her head, she was saying farewell to even the flowers. Then, about a good way from the sight of the little house, she stopped at her tracks, let out a huff, and hunched over once again.

"Mag?" Igni peered up at her, perhaps wondering about her sudden stop.

She shifted on her feet a bit and gulped loudly before daring to open her mouth. "I can do this. I can do this!" She repeated the mantra under her breath. She inhaled, willed herself to stand as tall as possible, and gripped the strap of her bag tightly.

"I c-can do this," she repeated again as Igni chirped in agreement and took her hand. He urged her on along the path towards Ilex Forest, where their journey would be set to begin.
