Birthday Present
Jirou yawned as he sat up from his bed. He stretched and scratched his eyes to remove all the dust. He looked at his calendar, hanging at the other site of his room. "Ano…" he mumbled, still feeling a bit sleepy, "It's Marui-kun's birthday today?" he asked himself. He looked again. "Ahh… I completely forgot…"
He suddenly snapped back to his normal self. "Huh? It's Marui-kun's birthday today? I completely forgot!" he shouted as he got out of bed, took a bath, and changed his clothes.
He hurried downstairs to the kitchen to get some quick breakfast. He grabbed a piece of toast and ran off outside, leaving his mom completely clueless of what was happening.
"I need to get a present for Marui-kun…" he thought to himself. "Argh, I completely forgot his birthday… how could I?" he asked himself over and over again, hitting his head again and again by his hand.
Then, he came across a bakery. "Marui-kun likes cakes, right? Maybe I could get him a one… or something." Then he thought again, "But… he eats cake all the time… I wanna give him something special. He eats sweets all the time… I can't give him that."
He walked and walked and walked. Then he looked at his watch, "Hnn… it's already two in the afternoon," he told himself. "I need to get a present for him now."
Then he spotted a candy shop. He thought to himself if he should go in or not. But in the end, he decided to go in and rest, while eating a piece of candy or chocolate or something of the sort.
He opened the door, unexpected of what he will see. Then he looked beside him, on a table. Someone he knew was eating there. It was someone with pink hair, eating bubblegum. "Marui-kun? I didn't know you were here…" he said, surprised.
"Ah, Jirou… I wasn't expecting you either," he laughed. "Are you here to buy something?" he then asked.
"Uhh… I'm just here to get some rest," he replied, smiling.
He sat down beside the tensai, "Umm… Happy Birthday, Marui-kun!" he suddenly greeted. "But… I don't have a present for you…" He frowned.
"It's okay," Marui said, giving him a reassuring smile, "As long as I can spend my birthday with you, ne?" He smiled.
Jirou's frown turned upside down after hearing what Marui had to say. "I'm glad to hear that, Marui-kun! But… I don't have a present for you. Aren't you sad or anything?" he asked, while fiddling with his fingers. Wondering what Marui will say.
"I already said it… Weren't you listening?" he laughed. "Even though you don't have a present for me, it's okay." He paused. "As long as you're here with me to spend my birthday."
As he looked out the window, Marui suddenly felt something against his lips. It lasted for a few seconds then it quickly disappeared. "Jirou…"
"Since I don't have a present for you, I'll just give you that!" the said boy smiled.
Marui blushed. "You didn't have to do that…" he said, shyly.
"Mou… but I wanted to! It's because I like Marui-kun!"
"I know that," he said, grinning like an idiot.
School, the next day
"Somebody looks happy today," Niou said as he saw Marui pass by.
Yukimura had a smirk on his face. "Is it because you spent your birthday with that Akutagawa boy?" he asked.
"Huh?" Marui asked, popping a bubble.
"Just a lucky guess," Yukimura laughed.
Niou laid his back against the wall. "How did it go?"
"It was fine."
"Eh? You're hiding something. I just know it."
"I'm not hiding anything." Marui twitched. "That mind-reader! Somebody blast him!"
"Oh? Anyway, I still know you're hiding something."
"I AM NOT HIDING ANYTHING, DAMMIT!"
"Liar."
"I am not a liar!"
"Yes, you are."
"Argh!"
And so, Marui ran off. And ended up sulking at the clubroom.
