Standard disclaimer: I do not own the show nor characters.
He was miserable, that was as obvious as broad daylight.
No, it wasn't the fact that he was out and about during the day with his so called friends, or that he was forced to socialize, it was the fact that he had to witness "it".
What is this "it" you say?
There she was-his sister with that man, Kuwabara in their own little corner, in their own little world. It wasn't that it was something unusual that bothered him but what had bothered him was the fact that he was becoming accustomed to it.
He hated to admit that in his cold little heart, Kuwabara had his respect and somewhere there in that heart of his,he actually approved of him for his sister. That thought made him miserable in a pathetic kind of way.
He was finally ready to let go of her, ready to give her away to the man she loved and yet it just didn't seem right. He felt robbed in a way that Kuwabara could just have her and tell her how he felt when his own so called brother could not.
But what made him really miserable was that he envied Kuwabara and his sister for having something so pure.
Nothing about him was pure, he was tainted.
His brooding however was cut short as someone decided to join him.
"They might as well melt with the way you're looking at them" a voice from behind him said, obviously Kurama just had to interrupt him and his, well. . .staring.
No answer came from the dark one, he was not in the mood for friendly banter nor for Kurama's teasing.
"Not in the mood? Well, that's new" Kurama said, he just loved stating the obvious, it was practically his talent.
"Hn" was the only reply he'd give.
Obviously Hiei decided to be unresponsive, he would not give in to Kurama's attempts at a proper conversation. And so Kurama just stopped trying, and took a seat beside Hiei.
They both sat there away from everyone, contented with the silence and the company of one another. They remained like that for quite some time completely still and calm. Their friends simply having too much fun to notice their absence and to care where they were.
"I don't hate him"
Hiei stated, not at Kurama - but more to himself.
Kurama simply smiled, understanding the meaning behind the statement.
Acceptance.
The moment however was cut short when shouts from afar promptly burst their little bubble, the group was calling for them now.
"Come on you two, we don't have all day!" came a shout from Yusuke.
With that, both of them stood and languidly walked towards them, taking their time, just so they could annoy Yusuke.
Kurama stretched his arm towards Hiei, taking his hand entwining their fingers. Hiei in return, squeezed his hand.
Kurama's hands molded with his was all Hiei needed
He too, had something pure.
And with that knowledge, he no longer envied Kuwabara.
