Teddy –
If you're reading this, one of two things has happened (probably both, but I probably will never know). Either something really bad happened to your dad and I OR you decided to go looking for something to do and found this by mistake. If it's the latter one, and that only, I urge you to put this piece of paper down immediately. If it's the former, or if it's both, keep reading.
There are things people will never tell you about you dad and I, things they'll think will taint your image of us. I don't understand why that's frequently done, and I'm all for realistic images of deceased persons. Hence this letter, which I hope you're the first person to read.
What you should know about your dad, more than anything else, is that he was devoted and loyal. Don't listen to anyone who refers to him as misunderstood, because those people are dead wrong. A better description, in my mind anyways, is hard to understand.
And me, you ask? I'm slightly crazy, occasionally impulsive, and rather tenacious (at least that's how my teachers tactfully put 'insane and stubborn'). None of that is bad – in fact, I hope you take after me in those areas. Just don't do anything too mental, okay – if Fred or George Weasley ever asks you to test something, it's a VERY bad idea.
People say the worst thing about death is leaving people behind, and I think they're right. I have no idea what the Afterlife is like, and I hope I'll get to watch you live your life a bit when I get there. If all goes well, I'll get to see you and everyone else I care about move on and try to live without me, although I'd much prefer it if they didn't have to do that in the first place.
And besides that, who wants to live forever anyways?
