Chapter 1: Spencer versus the Interview

Sarah stood at the doorway of castle, she stood there contemplating the decision she was about to make. Chuck has been so distance since his father died. She placed a hand on her stomach, she was pregnant and did not want to bring her child into the CIA. This was the biggest decision of her life. Chuck had thrown himself into work trying to fix the intersect, Sarah felt like she hadn't seen the real Chuck in months. She worried about how the child would grow up with spies as parents. All Sarah wanted was for the baby to be safe and never be in danger. She had tried so many times to tell Chuck she was pregnant but she couldn't bring herself to tell him, he was so distracted and focused on the intersect. If she made this decision it would change her and Chuck's life forever. Sarah took a deep breathe and left castle, she needed to protect her child from this life.

Sarah never though there would be a day when she'd leave the CIA, and she just left. Sarah had to work fast, she had to create a new identity and fake her own death, to protect her unborn child. She had one final mission that she could drift into the background. She soon boarded a plane to France and put her plan into motion.

21 years later, Sarah had started her life over, to protect her daughter to make sure that there was a normal life for her daughter, unlike the life she had. Sarah had a beautiful daughter named Spencer, she had kept the last name Walker for her daughter as a way to keep connected to her old life. She had told Spencer that the last name Walker was connected to a very important person in her life. Sarah was currently using the last name Stiles. Sarah and Spencer would move every year or so as Sarah did not like staying in one place too long. Currently they live in a small bungalow just outside of Laguna Beach. Sarah had died her hair a deep brunette colour and had opted for darker makeup to limit her appearance that someone may recognize. Although Spencer's appearance resembles a young Sarah.

A petite blonde spun around after tying up her Chuck Taylor black high tops while looking into the mirror, she gently tugged at the hair tie holding her hair into a large bun and shook her head. The hair fell down resting onto her shoulders. She smiled and exited the bedroom, as she made her way down the stairs to the kitchen. As the girl entered the kitchen a petite Burnette greet her with smile.

"Mornin' Mom" Spencer entered the kitchen with a huge grin on her face.

"Happy Birthday Spencer!" Sarah said, pulling a plate of waffles and bacon out

"Thanks Mom, you really didn't have to do this" Spencer replied with a small smile

"We've celebrated your birthday the same from 21 years, don't change what is not broken, and besides which you won't let me take you to the casino" Sarah laughed.

"That's because I have a job interview" Spencer

"Yes, what's this job for again?" Sarah questioned

"Still not really sure, I applied to a lot of jobs before graduation at the Job Fair." Spencer explained

"Right, well I think you are going to do great!" Sarah responded.

"Thanks Mom, I should probably get going for it" Spencer smiled before getting up to leave.

Spencer got into her Volkswagen Jetta and began her commute to her job interview. She hadn't really wanted to tell her mom about the location of said interview as it could cause a major change in their relationship. The job interview was located in Burbank, which would mean that she'd probably have to move out because the commute from Laguna would be interesting with all the traffic.

Meanwhile at a not so far Buymore located in Burbank, Chuck Bartowski and John Casey were preparing for the treacherous day of interviews for the candidates that would be trained to join on their team. They had chosen to interview individuals that were different from the normal CIA and NSA recruits. Chuck had requested to allow John and himself to train the new team member so that trust could be the basis of the team. John hadn't originally agreed to this but after countless harassing attempts by Chuck he said yes.

"Bartowski, you'd think after 21 years. They would have gotten rid of you" Casey stated with a straight face.

"Hey, I'm the best asset that has been recruited" Chuck replied. Chuck had been through a lot in the past two decades, lost the love of his life and the teammate he could never replace. He often did think about Sarah and wished things would have worked out differently. To his knowledge Sarah had died during a solo mission in Paris. While Chuck was lost in his thoughts and petite blonde hair, blue eyes woman entered the Buymore. As Chuck began to day dream, he felt a jabbing feeling in his ribs.

"Show time" Casey smiled

Chuck walked over to the interviewer and introduced himself. "Hello, My name is Chuck are you here for an interview?" Chuck said as he was looking down at his clipboard.

"Hey I'm Spencer Walker, I didn't know I applied for a job at the Buymore" Spencer spoke.

"The Buymore requires a multitude of talents, and your resume caught our eye" Casey replied.

The three gathered in the office and sat down. "Now this isn't going to be like any normal interview you have had before" Chuck spoke as he stared intently at the woman, she looked just like Sarah.

"I figured as we are in a Buymore" Spencer sarcastically added

"We have an aptitude test for you to complete before we continue" Casey stated, as he handed Spencer the test. "Take your time" Casey said.

Spencer nodded and began to complete the test; the questions weren't like anything she had been asked before but she flew through the test. It asked about self-defense, national security, and a lot of questions about memory. These questions were right up Spencer's alley she smiled as she flipped to the last page. She had taken Judo since she was five and had one of the best memories in her entire university.

"All done" Spencer smiled as she handed back the tests in about 15 minutes.

"That's the fastest anyone has completed those" Chuck said in awe.

"The questions were really straight forward" Spencer replied

"Straight forward, you say? I will take this to the computer to get the results. Bartowski, don't talk too much" Casey said as he took the test and exited the room.

"So are you from around here?" Chuck asked, still starring Spencer, she looked so much like Sarah.

"Kind of, but my Mom moved a lot so I've been all over the U.S. even lived in Hawaii at one time." Spencer replied

"Interesting, so your last name is Walker?" Chuck asked, as he looked down at the resume.

"Yes, it is, it's the one connection I share with my father" Spencer replied.

"Oh really, how so?" the realization hit Chuck that the last name was most likely a coincidence.

"He died in Afghanistan before I was born so it's my connection to him" Spencer answered. Casey re-entered the room.

"Well, Miss. Walker your results were impeccable." Casey stated, handing another sheet of paper of Chuck. Chuck looked down on the paper.

"95% match" Chuck blurted out.

"What does that mean?"

"It means you've made it into our second phase of interviews" Casey responded, shaking his head at Chuck.

"Before we head to discuss with the Director, we have a few questions to ask" Chuck stated firmly.

"Miss Walker, please describe an example of a time you were in a leadership role and failed. What were the lessons learned and your subsequent change of behavior?" Casey asked.

"I was student body president at Stanford University. I made a bad decision about an event and needed to think quickly to ensure everyone's safety. I cut back on event security to save money. I learned that I need to follow policies lined out by the organization and to be able to think quickly on my feet to adjust to any situation" Spencer explained.

"Right on" Chuck responded

Casey and Chuck asked Spencer a few more questions before nodding quite happily. Well as happy as Casey could be.

"Alright Spencer, we just have to confer about your results, we will be right back" Chuck said as he and Casey stood up and exited the room.

Spencer sat in the office, this was the strangest interview ever. Was this really all for a Buymore? What would be Mom say if she came home and told her she was working at a Buymore. Is this someplace she wanted to work? What kind of place was this? Spencer continued to ponder this for a long time. After an extended period of time, Casey and Chuck reenter the room.

"Soooo…. What is this job exactly?" Spencer asked.

"I'm glad you asked, if you follow us all your questions we be answered" Chuck replied.

Spencer, who was beyond confused, just went along with it. They walked into the locker room. Casey went to his locker, looks around and punched in a combo.

"Welcome to Castle" Chuck said as they walked through the lockers and down a set of stairs. It was a concrete office with lots of hallways.

They sat Spencer in front of a large screen. The screen turned on and a picture of an angry redhead appeared.

"Hello, Spencer. I am Director Beckman with the NSA in conjunction with the CIA"

"Wait this is for the CIA?" Spencer sat there puzzling

"According to the test and questions you answered, you have been deemed an excellent candidate for this team" Beckman spoke clearly.

"Woah" Spencer placed her hands on her face and took a breath

"I know this is a lot, and you still have a lot of training to complete with the other candidates in order to develop your abilities" Beckman continued

"Yes Ma'am" Spencer responded.

"Well I leave you to your team Bartowski and Casey keep me updated" Beckman stated before the scene went blank. Spencer sat in the chair taking in all the information she had just been given, it was a lot to process. She was going to a CIA agent and was perplexed about the situation.

"Beckman is a lot to handle, there were many reasons why you were picked to be a potential asset to this team" Chuck said with a smile.

"While you're in training you will be given a cover job and an apartment here in Burbank, this cover is your job that you tell your family you have" Casey spoke assertively.

"I understand" Spencer replied

"Training begins in two days, and here is the key and address to your apartment" Casey said before handing the key to Spencer

"After reviewing your past education, your cover will be as a personal trainer at a Gym next door" Chuck stated, showing Spencer a pamphlet to read so she could be familiar with the job for when her family questions this job. Spencer nodded and left shortly after.

"Spencer Walker seems familiar doesn't she?" Chuck asked.

"Bartowski, they all seem familiar after this many years" Casey snarled.

Chuck was not convinced and decided to review Spencer's file before making a decision about this feeling he felt. After careful deliberation, Chuck realized there wasn't any data to connect Spencer to his past love. He closed the file and smiled, it will be nice to have some new talent joining the team. He had high hopes for Spencer as her scores were the highest recorded in the CIA quizzes.
