Court Lady

Disclaimer: I don't own anything.

She stared into the mirror. Tears blurred her eyes but she didn't dare shed them. It would not be proper. She didn't care very much for being proper but it was her life. It was what she was forced into and was supposed to count her blessings for it. She was supposed to be thankful for having such a bright future, the chance to marry into an old well known family, to have an arranged marriage that couldn't be broken no matter how bad she messed up. She wasn't.

They said that ladies had it easy. To sit and sew, read, gossip and do all the things that were so simple in everyone's minds they missed the point. Being a lady wasn't easy. They too were subjected to people's opinions. You can do this better, or try this next time, or maybe you should wear this color over that one. It wasn't even just the opinions it was the way they faulted a lady for everything. If you were seduced or raped, it was the ladies fault, never the man's. The men could do no wrong. If you are tripped, you should be watching more carefully, if you miss a step in a dance you need to relearn the dance from the beginning, if you fall off while riding sidesaddle you have no sense of balance.

So yes, the Lady Knights had it tough. So yes, the Lady Knights dealt with people who thought them inferior and beneath them. But she had it just as bad for she dealt with stiff corsets, heavy hot skirts, and criticism from every person in the room and being thought inferior to even the Lady Knights. Maybe she wasn't called a harlot, or whispered about being improper but she had chains around her that no lady knight, no knight, could imagine. And it was painful.

A/N: This wasn't exactly the most interesting thing but it came across my mind that people always think that Lady's have it easier, or just easier then lady Knights and that they were weak and fragile or they didn't want to be lady's so they became wild but no one really writes/talks about the ladies who force themselves to be it or how their always supposed to do the right thing and their blamed for everything. Just my thoughts on that.
