A feeling like love was one he hadn't experienced in over a century, and he could honestly say that without any exaggeration. Admittedly, he thought that the emotion itself died the moment he was strapped down to the steel experimentation table.
That being said, Valentine's Day was something he had never really bothered with. It was all just a ploy by corporate wise-asses to rake in more money by manipulating blindly-infatuated couples into getting gifts and candies for each other, or taking them out to an unnecessary and expensive dinner. Besides, he had better things to do. So he never spent the day with anyone (except for Axl on occasion, but he had never really wanted the Brit to be there in the first place).
Well… Not until now, anyway.
As he looked over to the sleeping blonde lying beside him, he was considering going out for the day. But then again, he did that every year and he was getting tired of seeing pairs of teenagers going about expressing their so-called "love" to one another in less-than-subtle ways. (He surmised that half those girls probably wound up pregnant a short while later; no, he never regretted thinking that despite how "mean" it sounded.) And though Ky never minded…
Sol sighed, smoothing back his untied hair. Only this kid could make him get frustrated over what used to be the simplest decisions.
He felt a feather-like touch on his bare arm. Turning, he saw Ky, eyes half-lidded and still weary with sleep. Though softly, he managed to hear a mumbled, "Are you okay?" from the twenty-six year old. The corners of his mouth twitched upwards slightly as he turned his head away and ran a hand through those golden locks he grew to love so much.
"Don't worry about it." Sol replied, lying back down. He placed an arm around Ky and closed his eyes, murmuring, "Go back to sleep."
"You're not going out today?"
"Nah. Don't feel like it."
There was a comfortable silence between them as they lay together underneath the covers. The first soft rays of the chilly February morning started to shine through the half-curtained windows. Just when Sol thought the other was asleep, he heard the quiet remark of, "Happy Valentine's Day."
"Don't give me that. It's not like I got you something."
There was a small sigh, "It's not about what you receive. It's about the love you give."
"Oh? Just so you know, I'm still stickin' with my corporate swindlers theory."
There was another period of silence, with only the sound of the local songbirds twittering about outside filling the air.
"You know, Sol… The fact that you're still here with me — that's good enough for me. I wouldn't trade that for anything else."
He had to fight the urge to roll his eyes. (He wondered if that was possible even if they were closed.)
"Always were the hopeless romantic, weren't you?"
He heard a light chuckle from his partner, "I try."
"Ky, just shut up and go back to sleep already."
As he watched the blonde drift off to sleep again he started to reconsider and shortly after, decided that maybe the feeling never died after all.
Short and not-that-sweet, now that I look back at it XD. Surprisingly, I managed to finish this all in one sitting. Damn. (Well, that would explain why it's so mediocre. But then again, when aren't my stories mediocre? XDDD)
