A/N: There is a long explanation behind this, so it's at the bottom. I have a few more ideas for this "Rachel Lives" AU, see the a/n at the bottom for more details on that. Also, my brain is like all over the place right now so please forgive me if this isn't that great.
"You're not going to leave us, are you Race?" Jonny asked. Hearing that particular question, Rachel stopped before the open doorway of her son's bedroom and peeked inside. Jonny was lying in bed, already tucked in, while the bodyguard sat on the edge of the bed.
"Of course not, Jonny." Race answered, looking as confused as Rachel felt, "Why would you ask that?"
"At the meeting, Doctor Norris said..." Jonny began.
"Doctor Norris says a lot of things, that doesn't mean he's right." Race sighed. Ah yes, Dr. Norris, one of Benton's colleagues, was well known for his mentality that the world should obey his rules. When a rule was broken - say a bodyguard having a close bond with the child he is supposed to be guarding - he would take it upon himself to "discipline" whoever broke it. Such an occurrence had happened at a meeting early that day "He said those things only because he disagreed with me. He's wrong Jonny, I'm not going anywhere."
"Good." The soon-to-be-seven-year-old muttered, looking relieved.
Race made sure the nightlight by Jonny's bed was on before he stood and crossed the room - Rachel had made sure to duck out of sight before she could be discovered - "Goodnight, Jonny."
"Night, Race." Jonny answered as the light was flicked off.
Race slipped out of the room, leaving the door only slightly cracked open.
"Doctor Norris was right about one thing." Rachel murmured, causing Race to turn around and face her.
"Oh?" Race asked with a frown.
"Your place here will never be the same." Rachel answered, fighting a mischievous grin. "Though you are correct about not leaving anytime soon."
Race crossed his arms over his chest, giving the blonde a 'what are you up to?' look. "And how will my place change exactly?"
"You'll have two kids to look after instead of one." She answered with a grin before she slipped into Jonny's room to wish him goodnight, leaving Race standing in the hall with a surprised look on his face.
A/N: Alright, explanation time. So, I got the game Tomodachi Life and, like the geek I am, I put the Quest Team and Co in it. Long story short I ended up adding Rachel to the game so the Miis would stop trying to set Dr. Quest up with others (such as Estella, Hawkins (my OC), or Jade). Because of that, I began to wonder: what would happen if Rachel had lived and things turned out the same? This would also allow me to explore Rachel's possible relationships with Race, Hadji, and later Jessie. And, since Rachel doesn't die, what if Jonny got a younger sibling? (Hey, if you don't mind, could you please let me know if you think if should be a boy or girl?). Of course, there has to be a trade off. One life for another, Rachel lives so someone else will die (that fic will be coming at some point, dunno when, though I already know who's going to die (have fun guessing who it is!). While I intend to do more fics in the "Rachel Lives" AU, I only have one-shots planned. My universe (which loosely follows cannon, meaning she's dead) will still be my main focus. I will also put a "Rachel Lives AU" at the end of summaries for stories taking place in this AU.
