It seemed that like every other day on earth James Potter couldn't resist asking Lily Evans to go out with him. And like every other day on earth he was to insensitive to notice that today just was not the day to bother her.
"Go out with me Evans?"
"Rack off Potter"
James exchanged looks with Sirius.
"Someone's touchy today...where's Snivellus then? I feel like taking someone's pants off"
"Just leave me alone. You don't know anything."
"Lily...Lily what is it?
"Just go away. Please."
Finally James left, with many backwards glances and confused whisperings with Sirius. But what did he know anyway? What did he know about how it felt to have your best friend ignore you? To find out that the person you told everything to didn't feel you were worth confiding in. When the man you'd loved since the first day you met him decided he didn't value your friendship anymore. What did he know about betrayal? About having to smile when you're dying inside? About realising the person you thought you knew had changed so much that you barely recognised them?
Lost in thought it took Lily a while to notice the rain, and a while longer to work up the will to unwrap her arms from around her legs, to uncurl and stand up, and trudge back to the common room. To see her friends, put on happy facade and pretend everything was fine.
