A/N: I have yet to finish Chapter 29 of Stuck, but this is a one-off, sometime in the end of sixth year. Gryffindor's just won the Quidditch cup, and this takes place at the resulting party. Don't ask why Lily's off on her own. Just assume that she'd had to feed and now she's returning to the Common room.

Disclaimer: The song is from Metro Station, and the character's are all J.K's.

Lily stared across the room at James, taking him in. She felt her light emerald eyes softening while a smile played across her lips. He was laughing with Sirius, Remus, and three others from the Quidditch team that Lily knew only by sight. She twisted her way through the crowd, drawn to James' side purely by his vitality. He was positively vibrant, full of life and energy. She was going to be crushed when she was forced to part with him.

Lily stopped suddenly in the middle of the dance floor. She didn't realize her positioning, though. The only thing she knew was that the music was calling her, and James was thirty feet away. She flicked her wand, changing the tempo of the music playing and casting the sonorous charm on her voice. James' eyes caught hers as she opened her mouth.

"You are young, and so am I, and this wrong, but who am I to judge? You feel like heaven when we touch. I guess for me, this is enough.

"We're one mistake from being together, and let's not ask why it's not right. You won't be seventeen forever, and we can get away with this tonight."

Lily began to dance up to the center 'stage' as she sang, her lithe body twisting and contorting with the movement. The stage was in actuality three tables that had been shoved together. No one really cared. Lily was their first actual decent performance of the evening.

"You are young, and I am scared. You're wise beyond your years, but I don't care. I can feel your heartbeat, you know exactly where to take me.

"We're one mistake from being together, and let's not ask why it's not right. You won't be seventeen forever, and we can get away with this tonight."

The Gryffindors crowding the room swayed to the beat, dancing close together. James stayed on the fringes while his lips were contorted between a smile and a frown. Lily wasn't sure which was winning, but it didn't matter. Right now, the only thing that mattered was getting the words out.

"Will you remember me? You ask me as I leave. Remember what I said? Oh how could I, oh how could I forget?

"We're one mistake from being together, but let's not ask why it's not right. You won't be seventeen forever, and we can get away with this tonight.

"We're one mistake from being together, but let's not ask why it's not right. You won't be seventeen forever, and we can get away with this tonight.

"We're one mistake from being together, but let's not ask why it's not right. You won't be seventeen forever, and we can get away with this tonight."

Lily continued to stare at James as she removed the sonorous charm and clambered off the table. She vaguely heard another song start, and the crowd parted for her. No one particularly cared about her presence, and no one's eyes followed her movement except for James'. He held out his arms to her. She stepped into them.

"What's wrong with being seventeen forever?" James whispered after a few moments.

"You deserve more." Lily replied softly.

Neither of them spoke again that evening, just swayed to the music. They simply enjoyed being together. What neither knew was that Lily's song was false: in just six months, James would get his wish. He really would be seventeen forever. But that's a story for another day.
