Author's notes: I've had a lot of time on my hands recently, so I'm trying to write as much as possible and get back into the flow of things. Also Elesa/Skyla = my new OTP

White Noise
...

"They're not stupid, you know. They've been noticing things."

"Yeah?"

Skyla laughs, her hands drifting though Elesa's soft blonde hair. The sensation is comforting, calming, and makes Elesa want to fall asleep.

The light of the afternoon sun is filtering through the drapes, spreading across the spacious room and giving the whitewashed walls a golden glow. Below, she can hear the distant noises of the downtown city, the faint honking of cars, from their safe haven in the small five-story apartment building. She closes her eyes and leans back, pleasantly warmed by the sun's rays.

"So what will you do about it?" the brunette hums.

Elesa thinks for a minute, then shrugs. "Nothing. They can think whatever they want."

"But won't it ruin your reputation?" Skyla's voice sounds genuinely concerned, her fingers pausing for a moment in Elesa's hair. The blonde smiles and rests her head on the brunette's lap.

"Honestly, I couldn't care less," she replies. Light, carefree. Through the window, she watches a flock of Pidove soar through the clear blue sky outside and wonders if that's what it feels like, to be free.

The rumors have been spreading. Someone spotted them in a café together a few days ago and just had to eavesdrop on their conversation, and someone else caught sight of them holding hands and just had to take a picture. Gossip flies fast in Unova, and in the blink of an eye, the news was all over the region. The paparazzi has always followed her, but now she is being bombarded with questions and interviews every time she steps outside, persistent inquirers wanting to know all the details of her relationship with Skyla.

Sometimes, Elesa can't help but hate the spotlight. The situation has gotten to a point where she can't even leave the house with Skyla without attracting a crowd, and she wishes they'd just leave her alone and in peace.

"You know, I'm just surprised it took them this long," she tells Skyla, who snorts.

"Yeah. It's just like them, making such a big fuss over nothing."

Elesa smirks, recalling the shocked looks on people's faces when they found out about the scandal. They can't believe that their beloved supermodel, one of the most prominent figures in the whole of Unova, is a lesbian. Her entire image is being turned around and flipped upside down. If she were a lesser woman, she would have felt trapped. She would have been suffocated by the words, the rumors.

Instead, she just laughs at the whole thing. She's always been able to drown out the noise with her own electrifying tune, after all.

The blonde gets up and offers Skyla her hand, who takes it and squeezes comfortingly. Their fingers fit perfectly together, pale porcelain against sun-tanned skin. Elesa presses a kiss to the brunette's forehead and says, "Let's go show them."

Skyla grins, her wide blue eyes lighting up with amusement and mischief. With their fingers intertwined, together they open the door and emerge into the daylight, where the world is waiting.
