The night was at a quiet still; no breeze, no sound, no nothing. Dakota stood in front of the window while the two other girls slept. Her light brown hair was held into a side braid as she saw a shadow. It wasn't like the usually ones she saw. This one was her height, most likely a male as it stepped in front of her.
"Who are you?" She asked with her confidence showing in her soft whisper, her blue eyes blinked as the shadow's details came clear. It was a male with brown hair and dark green eyes which looked black from a distance, he was tan with braces, he wore a gray shirt with worn out jeans.
"John, why can you see me?" He asked afraid of who she was and why she could see him.
"I don't know, I guess if you stay awake long enough." She smiled as the moonlight casted light on her hair making the blonde highlights stand out more.
"I guess that is true since a lady screamed when she saw me, I'm someone's guardian angel, and her name is Dakota Adams." He smiled looking around wondering who it was.
"That's me. How did you die?" She asked curious growing inside her stomach. Around the room a lady stood by one of the girl's Lindsey, another male by the other girl Claire.
"I didn't I'm in coma, but I got ran over by a car one my skateboard. Is this an orphanage?" He asked gesturing to the small place she stayed at.
"Yes my parents died in a car crash a couple of years ago, they are right there." She pointed to the shadows out in the field outside. "They aren't allowed to take or see me." She sighed looking down at a necklace she held.
"You went to my middle school; you got pulled out in 6th grade." He smiled remembering her, she use to have blonde hair, but it must have gotten darker over time. Now they were 16.
"I didn't know." She turned her gaze out the window as he stared at his forever crush. Back in 6th grade John crushed on her, but she never knew because they never talked and now, he is her guardian.
"Don't you sleep?" He asked referring to her empty bed with some stuffed animals on it from home.
"Not really, I never felt safe." She responded as he put his arm around her, surprisingly she could fell him, but it was cold, he guided towards her bed and laid her down then he sat next to her with his cold arms around her.
"Go to sleep beautiful." He whispered and kissed her head as she dosed off into a deep sleep.
